Live Rock or did you pull that our of your yard.

The dry base rock is great, but if you was set on buying live rock, I'd either buy a local's old live rock, or buy it online. I would not buy anything from a local store. But that's just me.

As far as I have seen, live rock from the stores around here is just too expensive for what you get. It all looked like overpriced base rock. I have not purchased Marco rock but am very much considering it when I finish my tank build. First, it is a lot cheaper than live rock that is filled with water, you are essentially paying to ship a lot of water. Second, it looks to have better shapes than a lot of the live rock I have seen being sold. Third, you end up losing a lot of the live that was on the live rock in the first place if it was not handled/shipped properly.

My thought at this point is that I will buy 50 lbs. of Marco rock for my 50 gallon. I will then buy/trade for 10 lbs. or so of nice live rock to use as seed rock. It won't look all that great at first but like in most of reefing, all good things come in time.

Another option for you would be this type of rock. Ive used it in my tank and its full of life. Ive ordered from this guy too and he is very reputable. He is the diver and this is his business. the guys name is Dale.

Here's around 40lbs of Marcos rock that has just cured .The rock is very light .I am slowly adding my corals to the new tank . The main reason I bought dead rock as opposed to live rock was price $2.50 lb and the rock is free of unwanted stuff.

The stuff from Dale was incredible. I had it for my first setup and there was soooo much great stuff on it. I had to really resist the urge to get it again, but I had such a hard time with the mantis. The only thing that got the mantis was when I let that tank crash. The life on that rock order included lots of corraline, tube corals, two turkey clams, dusters, and probably lots of things I had and didn't recognize.
