Live Rock rubble for Ca reactor media?

So, I'm admiring my Ca reactor I built and really wanting to get it running, but need to spend the money on the fam and kiddies, when all of a sudden it occurs to me, I've got a LOT of live rock rubble in my fuge. Basically all Ca reactor media is is coral rubble correct?
So shouldn't I be able to use my rubble for media?

the only thing i can think of is some die off when you fire it up
dunno if and how long it will last if it does
i doubt though it would be a concern

why not its calcium carbonate, i would break it up with a hammer to the desired size and go for it, its worth a shot

the stuff you buy is cleaned thoroughly so you do not leetch anything back into the tank. I would bite the bullet and get the media.

I'm no geologist/biologist, but I don't believe that lr contains the minerals in the amounts needed for a reactor. I don't see why it would be a problem, but I don't think your going to get the results you would see with true "media". It's my understanding that reactor media can last for a year or more. I don't think that would be thecase for lr. Given price of good, cured lr, it seems like an expensive alternative to boot. My thoughts, best of luck though.

Barrett, I have a container you can have. I emptied the geo reactor I sold so, its the media that came from that reactor. LMK....
