Live Rock with Tenticles

Okay, sorry I don't have a pic. I tried, but my camera sucks at taking pics of my tank.

I have a piece of LR with something living in it. What ever it is has very long thread like tenticles that extend over half way across the tank. It usually pushes out a blast of waist about every hour or so. Does anyone know what this could be? I'm wondering if this is going to be harmful to my tank, and if so, how would I get rid of it without baking it? Thanks

It's probably a vermetid worm. Most worms are harmless. The only ones that aren't are big enough to see. You don't tell us how big your tank is. I'm assuming a nano. If it's 6 feet long, that's another problem and you should save the thing for the zoo. ;) Is it one or two tentacles at a time? Are they thin as sewing thread and nearly transparent? That would be a worm 'fishing' for floating debris. The fact it ejects a lot of waste, however, worries me a little, because it may be boring, which could mean another species. Hold out for more replies before concluding this thread.
