my tank is cycling right now, there is no fish or anything live.. I just order cured live rock online and i should get tomorrow. Can i just stick it in my tank when i get it or am i going to have to spend weeks curing it, even tho it is cured?

Sorry, but from what i have heard even cured rock has to be recured once put into your tank. Test often and do large water changes to keep ammonia, nitrite, and nitrates within acceptable limits. This will help sensitive organisms from massive die-off. When nitrites read zero again tank is cycled. but keep up on nitrate testing and water changes to keep in control. I'm recieving my own "package" from Tampa Bay Saltwater on friday. I feel like a kid waiting for Xmas as i'm sure you do.

If its fully cured, and you didn't have to ship it, you shouldn't need to recure it...but there's bound to be some die-off during shipping.

Forgot to ask but, you said your tank was cycling right now. What are you using to cycle your tank? And what are your readings. I assumed since you ordered it online there would be shipping and some die-off.

well ive already talked to some people from here about my cycling..
i just used the shrimp method, right now my ammonia is 0 and my nitrite is at 2.0 and nitrate at 20, ph is 8.2 and alk is 300

get rock.....
put in tank.....
test, test, test.....
once everything is 0.... your all set
dont rush the cycle period!

if there is no fish in the tank, just plop it in there. there will be a little die off that needs to cycle through, but you should be fine with no coral and fish in there

I'd also ditch the water in the tank. There's no need to subject the live rock to more ammonia than necessary.

Well, I hold back on that scrubbing if it is cured LR. :D

What Harold means it that if the rock is pretty much black then there is still dieoff going on. Cured rock may take some beating during shipping but it won't be black. Rock like that can be placed directly in the display. With rock that is black and still in the curing process I like to cure it in separate containers. There is no sense in letting all that funky water get into your new tank. See The New Tank Thread to hear about the other adventures that wait for your new tank.
