live sand/ ocean sand

The first thing that comes to mind is the same worry about using natural salt water from the oceans, and that is that you could carry parasites and other undesirables into your tank.

Also I wonder to the legality of taking live sand. It is probably perfectly legal, but I know that taking live rock is highly illegal.

By the term Live sand, suppose you want to put into an aquarium right away for the biologics living in it. I would be weary due to pollution and possibly introducing non-aquarium safe biologics.

I did use ocean live sand once but probably wont do it again. On my new tank I seeded it with sand from my old tank and bought calcuim sand. My 20 Wons worth.

i think that most beaches bring in sand to make up for erosion, something tells me that it is silica sand not crushed coral. it is quite possible i can wrong.

Think lots of beach erosion sand is barged in sand from further off shore, i could be wrong though also

so Speckled Grouper and SouthFloridian, any problems in your tanks with using keys sand? how much did you use and how did you transport it? how long from the time you collected it did you use it? i am getting ready to set up a big tank!
