Anyone know of a fish that eats the brown wafer algae? Reeferhead said a Naso Tang will eat it. Anyone concur?

Just want to be sure before I get something.... Or anything else that eats the stuff.

Put some tomato sauce on it and Nook will eat it. :D

But when I try and get him out of the tank I am afraid he'll bite!

I did a little research on it...not much is out there except it seems to prefer areas where sewage is released into the water...what are you doing over there Howard? :D

Snap a few pics of it. I am curious.

From what I have been able to find out from articles in Reef Keeping mag, and on other forums it is a common hitch hiker on live rock from different places.

Samala (RC name) did a good article on macroalgaes awhile back, and lobophora is indeed what I have. From talking to people who have had it and who know way more than I do (which by the way is pretty much everyone), the only fish that will munch it almost always is a Naso Tang.

So I will be looking for a small naso tang I can buy/borrow to see if he will munch the algae. From what reeferhead told me though Jack is lobophora is actually an indicator of good water quality, not sewage!

In either case I want this stuff gone, or under control.

I would try and keep it alive. I used to have some nice macro's that ended up going away. :-(

A Naso Tang! It will tear the stuff up. I've had Lobophora slowly growing and taking over my tank for the past 2 years. It has grown over zoanthids, irritated SPS, and covered almost every inch of available LR. Once it take hold its almost impossible to remove manually. At first I thought it was some kind of brownish green coraline, boy was I wrong.

It took about 6 months to find a naso small enough (about 3") for my tank but once I put him in he when right for this vile weed. Its only been about a week but he's eaten close to a third of what I started with.

Once he's eaten all the Lobophora, I plan on selling him as he's really too big for my tank as it is. It's a shame I'd like to keep him, beautiful fish! I'm sure the lobo will eventually come back but maybe this time I can keep it under control manually.

Good Luck!
