local collecting sites

If you are willing to do a little snorkeling the south jetty on the southern side of Clearwater pass has TONS of big hermits and snails. There's also some purple sea fans and a bunch of wrasse not sure of the specific name though.

Anyone wanna go collecting sometime? I have been to the Skyway and Sebastian Inlet. I've only been a few times and by far not a pro... But it's a lot of fun!

Picnic island by the gandy bridge has good grass flats also. Seen a couple of arrow crab before. I go wade fishing every where a lot and the visibility right now is pretty good too.

As a club, we have gone to the Arrowhead Picnic area @ Ft. DeSoto and had a collection day. There is a sea wall and a great picnic area with bathrooms. The seagrass has provided us w/ crabs, file fish, snails, and someone even caught a baby sting ray in a net(released of course). I hope we can get a trip in this year as the TBRC again and if we do, this is where we will go. Just a great site.

My favorite spot for enjoying the day in clean crystal clear water is the west side of Egmont Key. To my surprise a crazy amount of Olive Snails can be found.
