local fish stores

I think we are all missing a point here. The first thing is we have three local fish stores here where i live in knox tn. and i try to not say anything bad about any of them. First i bargin shop all the time and i have found good prices in all my lfs and i have found bad things at all three but we need to remember we are human and we all make mistakes so lets not through stones when we all have some glass. I only ask this because i have seen myself do this also and i am trying to be fair to all so i for one will always give a store a second chance because we all can make a mistake from time to time. may we all be bless by god today and try to treat others kindly. we can only hope the our lfs have the cence mto hire good ppl and ppl that will do the right thing for our reefs and fish and when they find the ppl that sale bad things the stop doing bussness with them.
 
Hawkeye - people were trying to steer you towards the better of our fish stores so that you wouldn't end up buying something that had a good likelihood of dying or being sick or wasting your time at a store that has a crappy selection. If you want to call that 'throwing stones' then so be it. We have way more than 3 stores here and some of them are very subpar while others have very good reputations.
 
yes you do have more stores and i have been you your club pages and i will be making a list to see most i can while i am there and i am not in any way saying ppl there are wrong but like i said stores have good days and bad days so all i was trying to say i was seeing ppl say good things and then another had a bad time there and that happens i know enough about the sps's i am looking for i will know what is good and what is not going to work so i am sorry you think i was trying to say something bad about you all down there i wasnt i am just trying to be fare to all
 
Hawkeye the point some of the people where trying to make is that at FAOIS better known locally as Johns place or Ichthy things is that the worst day he has probably ever had in that store is way better than the average stores best day it is a very well run and almost hospital like clean I think you would be hard pressed to go into a store anywhere in the country and find a cleaner store with as much healthy livestock and the willingness not to sell you something if in their opinion its not quite healthy or they dont feel like your tanks is up to keping it alive not many people i have met in this business would be willing to loose a sale just because they feel like the animal in question might not survive once it leaves the store also i shop at Finz quite often and they have an excellent stock and knowledgable people working their and have made the trip over to coral reef a couple of times have never bought anything there thought the prices were to high for what they were trying to sell
 
I am kind of new to the area and I have visited a few of the stores including Marine Warehouse, Coral Reef Aquariums, and Pet Mart in Tampa. When I went into Marine Warehouse, I wasn't greeted and the saltwater selection was decent but it could have used a few more things. Coral Reef Aquariums has a crappy owner that is always trying to rip you off and on top of that, their stuff always dies. I thought Pet Mart was the best place so far. It had friendly employees and a very large selection. I was in there just this past week and everything looked amazing. The coral, inverts, zoos, and fish were all thriving. It had tons of selection and on top of that, it is 40 percent off. Can't beat it. Everything that I bought that day is doing amazing.
 
HotReeferSRT4 sounds more like a ladys name but I could be wrong. Either way glad to not be the only one that shops at Pet Mart. LOL

If you are going to buy livestock and transport it back to TN via car I would recommend the following LFS in order of preference as I feel they sell healthy enough livestock to survive the trip:

1. FAOIS
2. Finz of Tampa
3. Marine Warehouse
4. Exotic Aquatics

Make sure and let them know details about your trip so they can bag everything accordingly.

Smart guy. Haha. I didn't really bash anything, I just like Pet Mart better. All the stores have their own unique thing and I just think Pet Mart has the best selection and I have never had a problem with them. The other stores I purchase from I've had stuff die and be sick.

Petmart is a good store, i've been shopping there and havnt had any problems with fish and if i do, Their 30 day guarantee gives me 50% of my money back. No other stores have a 30 day guarantee, so you know what you are buying is going to live. As far as the store it self, it is a little dirty but i've talked to managment and they said they plan on making some rather large changes to the store. Marine warehouse has crazy high prices and their sale reps arnt very eager to help me... Maybe it's due to my charming good looks, but beyond the point, Creative Oceans was pretty high priced too, but they closed down and now their Finz. Life Oceanic in apollo beach has cheap live rock, but their selection of coral is almost zero and their fish are decent but a little on the pricey side. I agree with HotreeferSRT4 for the most part. But basically, Petmart has a large selection on corals and fish and their prices are very cheap, so why are you guys bashing the store?

Gotta love when all the 1 post wonders come out of the woodwork!

I agree, if you know your fish are healthy then you dont need a 30 guarantee to keep angry customers off your back :D
