local story on a threatened coral found in the Keys

There is an article in the October 2009 issue of TFH that discusses something similiar, the SECOR project. There is another article about how wild collection may actually save the reefs. both are good articles and worth the read. don't believe the articles can be linked to yet as the edition has yet to hit the newsstands.
 
While I don't think they discovered anything that should be a surprise, I think a program like those are doing is excellent to teach the next generation the wonders and value of the reefs :thumbsup:
 
i just got back from the keys. the reefs actually looked pretty decent. the staghorn did look a little rough though
 
I will be going to Key West in January, and snorkling is on the agenda for one of the days. Will be interesting to see how things are down there.
