Local tank builder

Hello,

I've read and searched and I have yet to find a local star-phire tank builder. I did find glasscages.com, and the feedback was so so. And it has to be shipped. I would rather work with a local tank builder.

I'm looking to buy a 48"x24"x18" with an overflow on the rear 48" panel, centered.

I contacted Rainbow Pets in Arleta and they want $988. Glass cages wants $490.

I hope this is not a repeated question, but I did do a search and got no where.

I decide to go with a 30" x 30" x 30" w/external overflow box. I got one quote from aquariumsforyou.com for; $2,440.00. WOW!

glasscages.com wount build one with an external overflow.
 
I did, I contacted Leemar and they told me they have no control over how much there distributors price there tanks. The tank I got quoted at Rainbow was from Leemar.

Give Manny at Ocean Pet in Northridge a call and see if he can get you a quote on a Starphire tank. I know he gets pretty good deals on regular glass tanks. Being that you're so close, I wouldn't be surprised if they delivered it to your door for free.
 
When I was buying my starphire tank, I ran into the same trouble. I came to the conclusion that the tank (go figure) is the hardest thing to purchase. You'd think it would be the easiest. Anyhow, I had Tong's in Fountain Valley get one priced out for me from Visio. It is a 60X24X24 eurobraced and it has starphire on the front panel only. I can remember for sure, but I think it ran me between $1200 - $1400. I concentrated more on the total price I paid for everything that day. But I did get it during their semi annual sale.

Finding and waiting for the tank to be built was the toughest part of the buying transaction.

Yeah, It's hard to find one. Especially with an external overflow.

that external overflow is what I'm looking at..I don't see why Lee Mar can't do it? I know their not doing em, just don't see why.

I know, I found a place in NY, they want $2,300, plus $500 shipping. that's crazy.

I would think by now there would be a local tank builder. I'll keep you updated.
 
I dont know man,..im looking into something similar myself and for that money you can get an Elos 70 system,..comes with sump, skimmer, stand, all plumbing and a much better build quality

I was looking to get a tank with an external overflow also, but the LFS told me that I would have to build that part myself, since no one made tanks like that. Similar to what you are hearing.

He did mention some drawbacks of the external overflow that kind of make sense. With an external overflow there would not be enough water pressure in the external overflow to get a decent flow down the drain. You would still be able to drain water, but the max gph is probably lower than what you would get if you had 20- 30" of water pushing down. Just throwing ideas, but maybe the external overflow makes shipping the tank riskier? Since do you have something sticking out the side of the tank that can easily catch on other items during transit?

I would think that depends on how big you make it..Getting enough overflow are is the main thing. Take a center overflow that's say 8" square, that's 24" of overflow area (a corner would have 16")...so to equal just the area of a center back overflow you'd have to make the external overflow 24" long. There's a way, just not sure its worth it. My tanks in wall and I'm tight in there as it is, adding 4" to the depth of the tank would be a lot, plus I'd be running into it all the time.

Mac Inger, my budget for a tank is about $500, depends on what I find I might spend a little more;)

Sam, The overflow will have a surface area of 24" like golfish mentioned. The picture needs some work.
