Long tentacle plate coral?

Anyone have any long tentacle plate corals? Are they hard to care for?
are they capable of eating a nosy clown fish?
do they do ok under PC lighting?

I've never had any problems with them. Pretty sure this one would eat a small clown given the chance. Then again, it could be a host.

I would feed it a piece of bay shrimp maybe once every two weeks. The way the flow was in the tank though, it pretty much got everything that came it's way.

Mine was pretty temperamental.. much more so than my zoanthids, brains, and frogspawn corals..

but it shouldnt be harder to keep than a long tentacle anemone?

Long tentacle plate corals generally dont do well, long term. They will look good for several months, but if they get the slightest abrasion from bumping into a rock, etc., they seem to head down hill, and seldom recover. I have had several over the years and I think 6 months or so was the longest mine was healthy. I've had both pink and green morphs.

hmmm, i am re-thinking this now, maybe i should pass on one.
after googling them for a few days now it seems like most live for around 6 months, which is around the time all their stored nutrition is depleted then they die.
i just want something long and frilly

Try frogspawn or torch. They are good corals but can't keep most Lps under pc's. I kept a long tentacle plate under some metal halides it did very good until my emerald started shredding it.

Maybe think about a duncan colony. A colony with 6-8 heads looks pretty cool and will be a dozen or more heads before you know it. They are a rather hardy lps. Another good choice would be an aussie elegance coral. The aussie version of the elegance is a pretty hardy coral also.

Those duncans are adorable! but dang they are pricey :lol:

Look around, you can find a decent price on duncans. About $15 per head is average. You can even find them a little cheaper sometimes.

If you do get an aussie elegance, try to find one thats healthy with longer tentacles that are sticky (all good signs of a healthy elegance). With that said, most aussie elegances aren't cheap .
