Long Term Vodka Question/Help

First, thanks for all the feedback. The algae almost reminds me of Coraline from the standpoint of how it attaches, feels, and is removed from structures once it is attached. I don't have a good picture because it has subsided since I stopped using the Vodka. Unfortunately the Hair Algae has come back with a vengeance so I will need to start Vodka again. I was trying to come up with a game plan on how to control it before it becomes an issue.

I actually thought it was brown coraline algae when I first got it. That why I didn't do anything at first. I don't even know if there is brown coraline algae, but thats what it looked like to me at the time.

I've been dosing Vodka for a week and a half now. I started cause of high Nitrates and Phosphates. I haven't had any reduction in Nitrates and I am noticing an increase in green algae developing on the rocks and green hair algae as well. I know it's been a short time so far but I'm getting worried that this isn't gonna help but actually hurt. I hope not! I'm dosing 1.2 ml a day up from .6 a day last week

kkdoughboy, one thing I can say for sure is that it does help the PO4/NO3 issue which will control the Hair Algea. Just give it time.

Have you started pruning any algae out of the tank, or are you hoping it will just fade away as if by magic? ;) This kind of thing needs to be attacked on several levels, both at the source and also proactively on the part of your husbandry.

The algae isn't that bad at this point and I don't mean to suggest that it isn't a good idea to Vodka dose. I merely commented on my initial findings after starting the dosing. I realize it's only been less than two week and I shouldn't expect miracles. I didn't have any major problems with algae. I have more algae at this point than I did before the dosing but it's not out of control yet. My Nitrates haven't gone down either as of yet. I will follow instruction. I am always learning and interested in any input. Thanks
