Longnose Hawk Tail Rot

Just wondering from pic included if this is tail rot or injury and will it heal on its own? My water quality is excellent except for .25ppm phosphates. I am pretty sure he got into it with the royal gramma. He glass surfs every night in front of the grammas den and I have seen the royal gramma come out mouth wide open. Can't move him to treat and he is in a reef tank. Any suggestions appreciate and I would prefer not to medicate if at all possible. Thanks.

My alk is at 10dkh. The tail has been this way for at least 5 days. The white edges on it I noticed last night were as before last night it was still tattered but clear. How long for it to heal and grow back? Do I still need to worry about it turning into tail rot? Also I always thought a white edge on tail was bacterial/fungal or is this not the case? Longnose hawks have a top and bottom pointed tail and both points are missing. Just concerned.
