Longnose Hawkfish

Who here has experience with these? I have read conflicting reports on them. I have Several cleaner shrimp and I do not want to add anything that will eat them. Any input would be appreciated.

FYI, looking to put one, possibly two in my 240 sps tank.

Thanks,
Shawn

download the podcast from reefcast.com that has the fish of the week as the long nose hawk, plenty of good info on the fish, from guys who had them in a reef tank.

never had one myself, but a cool fish.

The pair is certainly doable in a tank that large, you could even have them spawn if things go well enough. However, as with all hawkfish, the shrimp are a risk. There are better odds of keeping the shrimp alive because they were in the tank before the hawks and presumably have had a chance to grow, but that's still no guarantee. Hawkfish love shrimp, and may end up eating yours. You pretty much have to choose one or the other.

I've heard both good and bad. In a 240 there is alot of room though. In all the bad stories I've heard the shrimp were smaller and introduced after the fish.

Good luck to you tho, nice fish
