Looking for a another fish.

I'm looking for a blue fish :fish2: that will fit with my 55 gallon tank. I have about 70+ lbs of live rock and about 2 inches of sand. The tank finished cycling 2 weeks ago but just waiting until I can get my fish in. I am getting:
• Black Nox Dwarf Angel
• Engineer Goby x2
• Royal Gramma Basslet
• Spotted Cardinal x3
• Orange Chromis (in 20 gallon already)
• Yellow Banded Maroon Clown ( also in 20 gallon)
• Fire Fish x2
• Marine Betta
• Green Mandarin ( going to wait about 6 months)

I also plan on getting some soft and LPS corals and some inverts.
Any suggestions on what kind of fish to get?

You could go with any of the blue damsels.ie yellow tail or azure.

I counted 13 fish on the first list. That seems to be alot of fish for a 55 gallon tank. I think I would choose my favorites out of the list and try to stay at 6-8 fish for that size tank. Most of the smaller blue fish are damsels and can be very agressive as they get older, but I have had a few that co-existed in my tank before.

BTW: You'll probably regret the 2 engineer gobies. I have one, and once he reached maturity, he became a butthole. They will make your rock shift by burrowing under them, and sometimes causing avalanches...

Also: I had 6 3-4 inch fish in my 55g for QT, and there was plenty of aggression by the end of the QT period. They all calmed down once moved to my 120g DT.

I wouldn't go with more than 6 small fish if I were you...

Here is what I recommend. DO NOT PACK IN SO MANY FISH! Your system will go crazy and your fish will be miserable. If you had a 120g it would be fine.

That makes 8 fish so make sure your filtration system can handle this load. Don't get upset, we just don't want you to make a huge mistake.

Hey FishKid. Now is the time to tweak your stock list. Not later when everything goes haywire. Please take head of the advice above. My main suggestions are no engineer gobies, no maroon clown and no marine betta. You'll never see the engineers when they mature and their burrowing can undermine rockwork, the maroon will be a feisty nightmare and the betta is just oversized for that tank even though they don't swim much. Also, skip the nox angel and get a cherub for your blue.

Good luck and have fun. And please do take good advice when it's offered. I know you just wanted a blue fish suggestion and you got a bunch of stocking advice. But it's good advice. Your fish will be happier even if you will not.

Imo the tank is fine,except drop the engineer gobies as stated. If the maroon clown doesn't work out exchange it for a "milder" clown. Good luck.

orange chromis (since you have it)
1 canary wrasse or other Halichoeres sp.
1 flasher wrasse (covered top for many of these)
Rainford's or Hector's goby
Firefish goby
Cleaner goby
Trimma spp. gobies
Eviota spp. gobies
Clown goby

From everything I read, pairing firefish is a bad idea. There were some pairs that worked for a while, but eventually one always died, just a matter of time. Maybe another dartfish species.

Interesting, I never heard of that. All I know is if you have just any two firefish at adult age they usually start fighting. Well a pair may not last 15yrs, but certainly for awhile i would think.

i think you need to step back and read some more about the fish you want to add to your tank. your tank is just barely cycled, so the mandarin is out (wich you know), the dwarf angel should not be added this soon (needs to be able to graze), the maroon clown is the meanest clown out there, fire fish are jumpers and would possibly be bullied by the maroon clown, the marine betta gets rather large and is honestly better suited for a larger tank or a tank your size with a smaller stock list or less fish.

lastly if you want an eel you could. there are several different types that would be fine for your tank. but you need a sealed top and need to do some more research into them. really small fish very well could become food, but this all depends on what you end up with in your tank.

im sorry if i come off like an a** but i would rather you be happy with what you get now instead of being sorry later down the line.

Ok the mandarin was going to be one of the last introduced, besidesthe dwarf angel. I ha e had the maroon clown for about a year and it is very gentle. The person I bought the tanj from had it with a tang, wrasse and the chromis( as mentioned earlier). When the tang and the wrasse died the chromis became king (or queen) of the tank and would steal food from the clown. For the firefish I am getting a hood specially develiped for my tankso the jumping wont be a problem. The marine betta I plan on purchasing small and possibly giving it away if it gets too big.

Just from a bit of experience i recently upgraded from a 55gallon tank that i had for almost two yrs. i kept about 60# of lr in my mixed reef tank. I had a pair of cinnamon clows, a RBTA, barred dartfish, target mandarin, a 2" lavender tang, and various snails and shrimp. I always wanted to add more fish but never did because i felt like the tank was already a bit cramped. I really wouldnt put more than 6-8 fish in a 55 max. Since i upgraded to a 125( the only way i could keep my tang) ive added a few more fish and while there is room for more, everybody in the tank seems very comfortable. If i were you id pick my top 5 fav from that list, add them and give it a few months. See how dveryone reacts to their environment and then if you feel like theres room add one at a time till you feel youve reached your limit. Its really exciting to get a new tank rolling and believe me i know how it is to want all these beautiful fish but just my 2 cents its always best to add very slowly so you dont make a mistake and over crowd or add a fish that doesnt like another in the tank and soo many more mistakes lol. Anyhow good luck!
