Looking for a DC4

Cage Fighter
for an aqua controller or I will trade one dc8 for 2 dc4's. I am having power issues running everything from one outlet. Breaker keeps tripping.

Thanks

Check your breaker, You may have a weak or bad breaker on the line your using. You should not be having any Issue like that with anything you can plug Into a DC8, I think you had better get to the root of your problem B4 you start a fire or some other unintended result of a faulty circuit. Your DC8 also has a fuse In It If It's a newer model you can check. Plus It should be a GFI circuit you are plugging the DC8 Into also. Hope this helps you to find the true problem as It can be Dangerous If you do not.

Bill has good points, but first off, are you overloading the circuit? How many watts/amps are you trying to pull (all the devices connected to the DC8's)?

I honestly think I have too much plugged in. This didn't start until I got some T5's actinics. I have the following plugged in.

1. Reeflo Barracuda
2. 250 MH magnetic ballast
3. 250 MH magnetic ballast
4. 96 watt cf ballast actinic
5. 96 watt cf ballast daylight
6. Little giant pump
7. 1/4 hp chiller
8. 250 watt heater

It is on a gfi. Works fine when I split the load up on different outlets on seperate breakers.

Yikes, Had no Idea a Chiller was Involved! I always ran them on there own circuit, JMO
I have ran 5 ballast on one, but not with a Chiller....
Bill
PS Howdy Chuck, Long time no see. Hope all Is good with you.

The weird thing is the chiller hasnt even powered on when the breaker trips. I have the aqua controller set to turn it on if the temp goes above 80.

I suspected as much..waay too much on 1 circuit.

Heres the guideline (I build data centers amongst my other talents so know this very well).

Your house plugs are somewhere between 110 and 120v. for conservative estimate, use the 110v value.

voltage x amps=watts

voltage/watts=amps

So you Barracuda states on it's specs that it is a 2 amp draw. That is a nominal figure (meaning at startup it's more), and also assuming 120v. at 110 volts it is actual 2.95, or rounded 3 amps. Hook up several items and that seemingly small difference adds up.

your lights and heater at 100 is a smidgen over 9 amps. Mose breakers (Unless it's an older house) are a 15 amp breaker. You always want to leave overhead..by about 20-25% to avoid startup problems and overheating. so 12 amps max is what I plan for.

You need 2 circuits, preferably dedicated. I ran two 20 amp circuits for my tanks downstairs to combat this exact type of behavior :-)

Yep, I have 4 dedicated 20amp circuits for running my tank. Plus a few wall outlets If needed. At one point a few months ago my whole system started to trip the breakers after adding that one metal halide for my frag tank. That was the straw that broke the camels back, Just too much stuff for the 2 circuits I had. That's when I added 2 more now I have more than I need for the time being.
