i tried to mod a seaclone i had once and ended up breaking it...tried to make the inner tube shorter to give more bubble reaction time ended up breaking the black plate that holds the inner tube

is you're seaclone in-sump or HOB? If it's in-sump you can do some easy mods and make it much much better.

Like what?

First, you remove the center tube, it's useless. Remove any tubing for use as a HOB. Take the pump (I'm assuming it's a maxi-jet) and sand off the 2 little nobs on the venturi piece. Reverse it and jam it into the intake of the maxi-jet. Attach the maxi-jet directly to the reaction chamber intake. After the mods, the air is chopped by the skimmer, and there's no tube so the reaction chamber is essentially larger. I'm not at home so i can take photos to help explain, but hopefully that makes sense. It's louder, but it performs much, much, better.

I did the bio ball mod to the pump, it works better, it is pulling dark sludge now, just not much of it, it takes a long time for it to reach the collection cup, which I also cut down. Are you telling me to cut the tube which causes the tornado effect, and if so how? I cant get to it, its way down in there, and mine is the newer style and wont come apart.

Yea, it's best to cut out the inner tube. I'm not sure how you can do it with the new style, but on the old one you could wiggle the large inner tube that floats to remove it. Then just reach down with a pair of pliers and break it out as close to the bottom as possible.
In reality, the tornado effect does more hard than good. without it you should get more bubbles and longer contact time which should produce more waste.
