Anyone selling a good used skimmer that is big enough to handle 400 gals? If I can't find a deal from someone out there whats my best bang for the buck new?

Ted

I agree with Fishfood23. I purchased a ASM G3 a while back and was very pleased with the results. So pleased I purchased a G5 for the 300 I'm currently setting up. All parts of the skimmer come apart easy for cleaning.
If you go with ASM definetely get the gate valve mod kit. Helps with dialing in the water level.

Hope this helps

geo will make anything you want and ill bet you get more bang for your buck. i have no personal experience with the skimmers but i do have a goe calcium reactor and it is one of the finest pieces of equipment i have ever used. look at the geo club in on light/filtration forum not 1 unhappy person. i have an etss skimmer paid alot for it and now wish i had bought a geo. the etss runs and works fine but i could have gotten twice the skimmer for the same money. good luck

I have an MR1 now but it will not handle my current plans. I am combining two tanks with a new large sump so it will go from 90 gals to 400 basically. The MR1 works fine for this tank.

It looks like if I go with an ASM I would need a G5 no?

I believe the G5 is rated to 800 gallons, but realistically I heard it is only really effective up to 400. The G3 is supposed to be good up to 300, but again, only effective up to 180. I will be running the G5 and my G3 on the new 300 gallon. My total system volume will be roughly 475 gallons. Hopefully that will be suffiecient.

Rod is actually helping me with this project so whatever I get will probably be through him.

I really like looking for ideas on here because I have learned more about this hobby on this board then anyplace else!

I have an MRC 3 if you are interested. PM me and we can talk.

+1 on the MRC 3. That is a kick butt skimmer. I've heard nothing but good things about it from those that use it.

Out of curiosity. Why sell it?

Because my MRC1 is currently on my 90 gal. I am combining my 90 gal and a newer 180 gal I have into a new 100 gal sump that will run both tanks. I do not believe the MRC1 will handle that.

Canar they are recomending you use the MRC3, not the MRC1. The MRC3 is a much more powerful skimmer and gets my vote.

For large tanks, beckets are the way to go. For smaller ones, needlewheels...IMHO.

:) Canar, I understand your problem. There is no way a MRC1 will handle your new needs.

I was wondering why Beester15 is selling his MRC 3. I don't want to hog your thread, but am looking at my next tank and may be interested if you are not.
