Looking for an Anemone

Hello everyone :)

I just bought a mated pair of Gold Stripped Maroon Clowns. I really wanted to get a Rose Bubble Tipped Anemone for them but I cannot find any LFS that have any. I have never bought fish or corals online. So my question is, has anyone had any luck with buying an Anemone online and if so who was it?

I attached a pic of my mated pair just so you can see the size.

Thanks In advance

Beautiful fish! Have never had much luck buying an anemone online. Dont know why. Bought an LTA from local and have had great success with it. Tried 2 different BTAs online from 2 different vendors and they were both short lived. Dont know if its just the stress from shipping or what. I know there are many who have had success but just didnt work out for me. My LTA is beautiful and healthy and my GSMs love it. I'd keep looking local.

IMO I wouldn't buy a nem online. I would much rather be able to see it in person to make sure it is healthy. Keep looking around for a nice nem. Also remember that GSM clowns can be known to love their nems to death so make sure you get a pretty good sized one.

You have a beautiful pair!
I ordered three BTAs online and all three died right after the two week guarentee was up. Not sure why. I got one replaced, but then the replacement died. You don't necessarily have to buy a Rose Anemone. Any Bubble Tip Anemone will do, so find the biggest, healthiest, prettiest one you can find that you are happy with and your clownfish will always love it.

Make the trip down to Oldsmar (near Tampa). One of the LFS (and club sponsor) has a bunch of nice BTA's in stock...including two very large rose BTA's.
The trip will be worth it. There are 3 LFS's within a few miles of each other.

The specific LFS that had the bta's is Fish And Other Icthy Stuff. PM me if you need specific info.

Great looking pair! If I was going to buy a nem online I would get it from Divers Den, but saltwaterfish.com is local to you (free shipping) too!

Ok so I went to Fish And Other Icthy Stuff and got a great looking BTA and now it faces the back of the tank. I thought he would face the front of the tank since that is where the best quality light is. It has been two days and no movement from the BTA. I think I will wait a week and then move it myself if it does not move by itself. Mostly because I want to be able to see it. But also because it does not get a lot of light in the back and I am concerned that it will not do well. I don't want to move it now just because it is still acclimating. Any thoughts from anyone else?

Thanks

Glad you found a BTA at FAOIS.
I would let it acclimate to your tank for a couple of weeks at least. It might take a while to settle in to a spot that it likes, especially as it adjusts to a different lighting situation.

Sometimes they take a while to find the spot they like. A cave, hole or deep crevice in the liverock where they can attach and part of their column is surrounded by rock seems to suit them. Until your BTA attaches, be sure the powerheads are covered with plastic fly screen, sponge or something. Being sucked into a powerhead can lead to an untimely demise of your BTA.

Often your local reef club will have members who breed them for sale. Here you can get one that like that about $50.
