My experience - 1 pair purchased from LFS, male was basically blind, only ate from the surface. He was doing fine for 18 months at that game, but one day just died from unknown causes. Female seemed unaffected. I then got the opportunity to acquire another pair (so I ended up with a MFF trio) - second female beat the first into submission then eventually let up and all 3 were social. The original female still slowly declined and passed away in about 6 months. Then the male decided to stop eating and declined quickly, I fed anti-parasite treatment to no avail, so now I am left with 1 lone female and will not be getting any more of these lovely fish. There was never any spawning rituals or such that I saw.

what size tank and were they the only fish?
was it a reef tank or FOWLR?
what size did they reach?
Mind me asking what you paid for them?

Tank is a 700G (96 x 48 x 36H) reef, typical reef tank - male was likely 8" at death, female was 6ish. The first pair were $750 and the second pair were $400 (from another reefer that wanted them to go to a bigger tank and in a fast sale).

DD often has pairs available, but they go fast. IMO & IME; CH triggers are quite easy, docile for triggers, needs lots of room. A pair is a must have for me. I don't know of any triggers that have ever spawned in captivity, except at public aquariums. I don't think any triggers have ever been raised from birth at all. Given their spawning and growth requirements, they may never be. But, the Asian breeders may find ways to artificially spawn them.

i thought I read somewhere that someplace was breeding clown triggers but maybe that was a public aquarium.

hmmm, I love a challenge but not one that is too daunting.

There are several species of fish that are now being caught as tiny juvis and then raised in captivity. I think some CTs may have bred, but the fry never raised successfully.
