Looking for friend for a small tang?

So I have had a pair of percs with a tiny blue tang in my 20G long quarantine tank for at least 2 months now. The perc turned female has gotten progressively meaner with the tiny tang. All the tang wants to do is hang out with the percs, but just gets beat up when she does. And she just comes back for more. So I have transfered the pair of percs to the 75G display. The Tang is about 1" now. So I am looking for a friend for the Tang to hang out with. What would be a good fish to introduce to her to keep her company? I just put her in the display and she went straight for the pair of percs, for which she got hammered. Now she is back in the quarantine... but lonely. Thanks for any suggestions...

I wouldn't put another fish in the 20 gallon with the tang, as that sized tank is much too small as is your 75 gallon.

I suggest trading it in at your LFS for a more suitable fish or fishes.

At 1" the 75 gallon tank will be able to hold the blue tang for quite some time. However the tang will eventually outgrow the tank, so prepare yourself to upgarde to a larger system, or trade the tang.

Anyway back to the topic of the thread, I would suggest a dwarf angel they are active enough to keep up with the tang. My kole tang, and coral beauty are always hanging out together.

Thanks for the replies. I am looking at a 48" 120G tank for a future upgrade. She is only 1" at that moment and is lost since I put the clowns in the main. Just looking for something to keep her company for the time being. The dwarf angel might do the trick. I will be drilling a 50G square this weekend. I am keeping my options open. So in the end, I hope to get down to 2 tanks. A 120 and a 50.

you should have probably put the tang in the 75g first especially since the clowns were the aggressors (allows the tang to establish territory before the aggressive fish are added). but I dont see why you think the tang needs company. I raised my then tiny tang by itself (for the most part) in a 30g for the 1rst yr before moving it to a larger tank. my tang didn't appreciate new tank mates at all initially but tolerates them being a docile tang species.

weird as it sounds my little tang hangs out and swims around with a group of green chromis. they never seem to pick on it. and the tang seems very happy. but definately need to upgrade when it gets bigger as will I. this may just be my weird experience though

My blue tang was scared out of his mind for the first week and would not leave the back wall. Then I bought a yellow wrasse and they are best friends now. They are side by side all day long.

whatever everyone else says about the size of the fish/tank

then for what its worth (my opinion)
i have a yellow tang in my main reef... and i swear he is a lil queer for the sunburst anthias that is in there... they are always hang'in out w/ each other very peacefully...

Cigar-shaped fish like dartfish or gobies do well with tangs: they couldn't hit them if they tried, and they just don't present a profile or feeding pattern that stimulates aggression.

I'd say dartfish, gobies or chromis. A dwarf angel would probably kick the s!!t out of your tang in a tank that size, but maybe not. My flame terrorizes my butterfly and my sailfin and they're in a 270.

She currently doesn't use the tank she is in. She just sits in the corner behind the heater. I saw a tank raised Orchid Dottyback at the LFS over lunch. Only problem is I have shrimp in there as well. I might give it a try.

alot of good suggestions above...
myst with the yellow wrasse -
skater and the green chromis -

I agree with sk8r and think the tang would do great with a firefish goby or 2... they're very docile and inexpensive - or 2 or 3 chromis in there would also be fine - and you still wouldn't be overcrowded - but make sure and keep your bioload in mind.

If this is a QT tank, then you most likely don't have alot of hiding spots... I have used glass or porcelain coffee mugs as coverage in my QT tank and it seems to be fine - the fish appreciate any type of structure.

Why they couldn`t hit them?

Not sure if I made a mistake tonight. I don't think I did. I went in to get the tank raised Orchid Dottyback and fell in love with one of the ugliest fish in the store. The Orchid Dottyback was just too skittish for my taste. I picked up a naked ocellaris. This fish had a bunch of personality. I am currently acclimating it. I'll see if I can get some pics when he/she is out of the bag.

As long as you keep the ocellaris and tang together in the QT you should be fine. But Jocephus is right, the other clowns will kill the new clown if you put them in the same tank.

I am in no hurry. I have no plans for putting the clowns together. I will be drilling my 50G this weekend. I took a hard look at the Red Sea Max and figured I could do better for less.

So far, the tang and naked clown are getting along fine. It is a QT tank, NOT a hospital tank. So there is live rock and an 8"x10" tray of sand that is about 1/2" deep. I'll post some pics tomorrow. The lights are out tonight.

Okay, maybe a couple of pics.
