Looking for hood pics of MH over a 5.5g

mine... lol

i dont really have it in a hood just on a ghetto-rigged light stand made of 2x4"s and some picture hanging wire.. ill take a pic of the way its hanging if you want, but you asked about hoods and that i dont have..

IME it needs to be pretty far off the water... i had it close for a while and the water would heat to 84 degrees and my corals got burned... now that it is ~1.5 feet above the water the corals have recovered and the temp is a constant 80.4 degrees

I remember seeing a thread somewhere on RC of a 5.5g with a 70W MH. I got some goodies for free but debating if I want to install it or not. What I was afraid of is building a hood to house the light and it being "~1.5 feet above the water".

Even if your pics are old or of a temporary setup...share them and any experiences you have had with them :)

Thank

what watt bulb is it?

a 150 id say go 7 inches, adn put in 2 fans, a 70 id say 5-6 nad fans again

the key is to haev fans pulling hot air out, leavign slots to pull cool air in, and let it go over the surface, liek one fan in the top, one in the back, holes on the sides, thast what i would probabyl do

heres a REALLY old pic... like the day i initially set up the halide...

i have the small tank and light mounted into an old speaker case... worked great but i took it out when i wanted to upgrade and threw the speaker case away and then the upgrade didnt happen... its all good though because my new tank is cycling so ill only have a ghetto tank for a little bit longer...

When my buddy brings the ballast over I will have to fab up a hood and I will post pictures of what it looks like. Maybe by then my camera will be working again :)
