Looking for local reefers!

I was at MACNA this past weekend with some message board friends, and it got me hankerin' for local reefing friends to share my love of this hobby.

I'm a member of C-Sea but have not yet attended meetings. I think I'll come to next week's meeting and start to get to know some of you. :)

I'm very new to the hobby; tank just set up April 21, 2008. Used a Tampa Bay Saltwater Package. Small tank, 65g display, upstairs/downstairs system with circulation to the basement. 100g sump, 20g remote refuge, auto water change system. T5 HO 6x39w retrofit diy lighting, reeflo barracuda return pump, asm g2 skimmer, hydor koralia 3 ph's.

Livestock; mixed reef corals, some sps, lps, softies. Fish; bluespot jawfish (my favorite), firefish, royal gramma, six-line wrasse, lawnmower blenny, mandarin dragonet. Yes, I moved way too fast stocking, but I've been very fortunate that things have gone well so far. I keep a close eye on parameters and do a lot of water changes.

I live on the east side of Cleveland in Willoughby Hills. Anybody near me?

Hi Barb, Welcome aboard. Believe it or not, there are some of us east siders around. Definitely think you should check out a meeting.

Hello Barb,
I will be attending my first meeting next week as well. Looking forward to meeting you and everyone else.

Hi, hi!

Hey, the VP chimes in! With his impressive list of equipment! lol I have a brand-new GEO kalk reactor that I haven't hooked up yet because I'm chicken.

Glad to see an east sider, too!

Hi, Eddie! Look forward to meeting you, too.

I just set up a Current 24g Aquapod last week with TBS rock, again. I'm doing a species tank with an anglerfish, most likely antennarius maculatus (warty anglerfish) as they don't get too large.

And, on the way is a modded JBJ 28g HQI nano-cube for some picasso clowns a friend on another board has bred. I'll use some TBS rubble from my sump and some Marco rocks I've had in the system since the beginning. Black Tahitian sand. Some beautiful orange and white fish, and sometime down the road a suitable anemone when the time is right... in about a year.

I have got it bad! lol

Hi, Mark... I should say my favorite part was learning at all the great seminars, right? But my favorite part was meeting my friends from the boards.
It was fun to meet the vendors I've dealt with, and seeing all the neat equipment in one place. There were some great livestock vendors; Cherry Corals, Mr Coral, ORA, and MOFIB had a great little booth with some baby Mandarins that were awesome!
I didn't win the big raffle which was a trip to Fiji, but there's always next year, right?

hey there, i guess i'm not the only new eastsider going to the meet next week. you sure don't sound like a newbie with salt since you have so much stuff going hehe.. looking forwards to meeting everyone next week.

Hi! I think I have a lot of pent up demand! I've toyed with the idea of salt for years and years. I'm no youngster!

My kids are all grown and gone except the youngest, who is graduating college in December.

I started with fw tanks when I was in junior high, and had those off and on until I had babies back in the early 80's. Then the tank care got to be too much so I took the tank down.

Always thought about salt though! Before setting up my tank I studied and studied and studied, beginning in Sept of '07 so I would know what I was doing before I got the tank wet. So glad I did that, too.

Hi Barb, Welcome to the hobby/club. I'm in Cleveland Heights. Not too far from you.

Cindy

Hi, Cindy! Not too far at all. I've noticed there aren't a whole lotta women in the hobby... well, there ARE, but it does seem to be mostly men. Must be all the equipment! lol

Welcome Barb,
I'm also an eastsider in Concord.

Hi Bruno... Concord is another close one. Looks like you've been in the hobby for awhile.

I should get some pictures posted, huh?

There were five of us from the club that attended MACNA. John, Ben and his wife, My wife and myself. Had we known you were there and a Csea member we would have sought you out. It just dawned on me that you were talking about the crew from RF I should have spent more time there and got in an the conversations more.

Looking forward to the new season and all the new members. Glad to have you in the club! It is a great benefit to have so many people around you that have the same interests (obsession) ;)

This will be our second installment of ReefKeeping101 so hopefully you can get some pointers.

See you there.
