Looking for Mangroves

Its a 6500K energy efficient bulb and lamp from Lowes. lamp 6 bucks and bulb like 7bucks. Becuase it is that funky twirled energy effecient bulb it does not run hot so we leave it on 24/7. They seem to be very happy!

We mist them with fresh ro/di water to rinse them off about 2x week.....they excrete the "toxins" that they remove throught their leaves.....so i read somewhere....??....PLUS we are about to trim them back a little cause the same article said to kepp them to 6-8 leaves per stalk....

So whatever were doing is working cause they look happy and I know I am happy.

Our magnesium did drop about 200ppm after about the 5th week (when they rooted well and sprouted-when they began to "work")

but we check levels and dose 2x/per week.....same time we mist the leaves.

we got it from wet pets and Ok so its MINERAL mud....miracle mineral yadda yadda...close only counts in hand grenades.

lets see if this link works

We placed a 2-3 inch layer of mineral mud on the bottom and then 1 inch of substrate sand on top.

When the mangroves arrived from hawaii (ebay) we poked our fingers down in the mud to make "holes" then placed a mangrove in each hole.

Just ordered 10 mangroves from Hawaii for $14.

I'll take some pics and to show what kind of mess the sump is in with the macro algae (mess is from the red slim algae that seams to kill out the chaeto I have)

the toxins you are referring to are called tannins, they are leached into the water from DEAD leaves that fall into the sump. Just remove the dead leaves as the die.

Think of it like Tea leaves, they turn water brown. Same effect, just in a negative way

Here is an update on the Mangroves:

Here is what it looks like. I am running just mangroves and no macro algae.

So far, so good.
