Looking for New LFS (central IA)

Hello all, I'm relatively new to the GIRS forum, I've been on RC a few years now though. Just moved back home to Montezuma (between IA City and DM on I-80) from Des Moines back in Sept. Found 2 shops in Coralville that were pretty decent, Sea of Marvel and some other place I can't remember that is on the strip across from Sluggers? In Des Moines I frequented Adam's Aquatics, Reef Connection and Iowa Pet Foods and Seascapes. Anyone have any other sugestions for Reef Supply and Livestock close to my area. I'm 1 hour from DM, and hour from IA City so I'm right in the middle of IA just 8 miles South of I-80.

Thanks all.

I just went to a new shop yesterday in West Des Moines. The guy has about 1000gallons flowing for coral tanks and expecting another 1000 for FO. He's going to carry SPS, LPS, Softies. Also from what I saw he has an awesome selection of dry goods, luminarcs, MH, icecap stuff, reactors, etc... It looks pretty promising for those who live in the Des Moines area that are looking for nice corals, fish, and drygoods. The store name is Midwest Aquatics 817 Grand ave

When I was in there yesterday, He had just a few. Said he was getting more in very soon. He did have a couple mystery Wrasses which are awesome fish along with some other ones.

Petland by the sycamore mall is getting sw stuff in. reasonable price too. Nice looking stuff, corals and fish

Just went to des moines today. I tried to find 817 grand but I believe that is close to being downtow. The only thing I saw was parking garage. Course knowing me I probably was on the wrong block.

Yea its in West Des Moines. If you are on 235 you get off on the 73rd-8th St exit and go south from there and you will hit grand and it is right there. There is not much to look at yet but it looks to be very promising. He will be completely setup in a few weeks.

I stopped in to Midwest Reefs the other day ( new store in WEST DES MOINES)

it is a Dive Shop and Reef Shop in one.

the Fish guy was MIA while I was there but the Scuba guy was very helpfull and upfront that he didnt know much about Aquariums .... but he let me in on the plans and the when and where everything will be..

Right Now ( as of monday night) they have 4 tanks up

looked like a 90 , a 120 and maybe a 210 all reef in the main room and maybe either a 75 or 90 not sure...in the other room

he said the plan is to set up some number ( can't remember maybe like 10 -15 ) of smaller tanks for fish for sale
and they would be stocking the mid to high range more rare corals....
he spoke about maybe setting up trips (for those who can afford ) for diving ( marshal islands) and you can colect fish/corals and they could ship back to Des Moines and hold it for you till you got back...... sound very cool

oh and one more thing he said the Grand opening is going to be like mid-late june...... ( they are openish now just still setting up tanks etc.)

dont quote me on any of this ...... :-)

I give him an A++ on first Impressions

Sea of Marvels is going to move. Hung has a picture of the new store which will be up 380 in North Liberty. He said it would have 5 times the space.

I stopped by Sea of Marvels on Saturday and saw the picture of the new place, looks to be great but it'll be way out of my way now. Got a good deal on a tail spot blenny and some nassarius snails. That guy is really cool, I wish I was closer to N. Liberty.

Argh...I wish I'd bought a tail spot blenny instead of my bicolor. I love the bicolor but the coloring of the tailspot!

I was lucky they had one, I would have bought a bi-color but after reading they might not be compatible w/fire fish the tail spot is the perfect tank mate. He's already making friends w/the fire fish and eating algae off the rocks.
