Looking for proof LEDs work - post pics if you have them

One year, been under LEDs since day one of this tank.

Is that's years worth of growth?

Jack,

We already know your thoughts on LEDs - there are many factors that go in to growing corals - salinity, flow, parameters, light intensity, light duration, coral duration (how long have the SPS been in there - many people will wait at least 2 - 4 months before adding corals), etc.

I'm trying to keep this thread about what people are doing that is successful so we can learn more about the tech - what works, what isn't.

Not trying to derail, just curious, it would be different if he added most of them 4 months ago or if they have been in the tank a year. If a full year it is atypical of AI's and the results I have seen in other tanks. While I am not a fan of AI's they do work.

Is that's years worth of growth?

I started the tank last October, started adding coral n the following months, and have slowly added some ever since. I'm defiantely not getting the growth I got under halides, but stuff is growing, some faster than others.

For instance, under the halides, 250w Radiums, one year of growth for an ORA Red Planet:

The tank pictured below was, at the time running for 2.5 years under LED's the entire time.

Make sure to read the thread, some good info, and further in, some astounding par numbers. Proof positive that slowly acclimating coral to the lights works.

i magnified the picture 300 percent and just like my tank your blues seems good along with the green BUT the red acropora seems brown in the picture. LED companies are now using 240np and are saying it is bringing back the colors in these 3 colors we are having problems with? if thats the case and they know of the problem why isnt the companies reembursing the people who bought these new with those bulbs to be introduced to the fixture. obviously there is a problem with there current bulb selection and why should the consumer have to pay to get it fixed

My blues are 470nm and I definitely do not have any issues with reds, they literally glow. I can't complain about the color rendition in my tank. It's not as blue as I'd like because my fixture lacks the royal blues that give it that deeper water appearance. When only the blue LEDs are on my blues and purples basically disappear but greens and reds luminesce like nothing I've ever seen.

In nature the UV radiation plays an important rule on coral reefs life.
IMO the lack of UV on LEDs makes a big difference. U can stand under LEDs for days and you wont get burn.

This is a pic of my old nano. Grown under MH and switched to DIY LED (1:1 royal blue:cool white) for 6-9 months. My notes say the camera flash was used.

not too sure about this they make a uv led not uv violet that is not uv thats the 410-420nm the actinic equivalent. Uv is 370 and lower i believe and corals don't like this this is one of the reasons mh has a glass shield but some believe uv is good in small amounts.

I started in the hobby a little over a year ago. I have no experience with MH or T5s. I began my setup and still have my setup with LEDs (4 AI Sol Blues in a 90 gallon). I have no point of reference with other lighting, so I am just posting pics of my current setup. It took me time to learn how to keep corals and SPS specifically b/c I believe there is a high learning curve in maintaining an SPS tank. So, I attribute my lack of growth or poor coloration this past year to this learning curve. I went through instable parameters, reb bugs, and bleaching. So, my first year may not be a good example of success under LEDS. Well, enough of me babbling... here are my pics:

Sorry some of these are Iphone pics

Tank about 2 months ago.

I just reaquacape a week ago, so here is the new scape:

As promised pics of corals growing under Acan 104 LED only. Some pics are cropped and some are tilted but it was a quick photo session. My tank is a mixed reef but these are most of the SPS.

This is what I meant about perceived color. This birdsnest is pink when all the blues are off. Turn on the blues (and whites) and the birdsnest is completely washed out. This is what I dislike about the typical royal and white combo.

I think the consensus is that LEDs can grow corals and color up most corals. I think if you are hardcore SPS, then go with a Radium and be done with it. Seeing as my tank is more mixed, I enjoy the benefits that LEDs offer without worrying about having optimal SPS color.
