Anybody have a recommendation for a protein skimmer for a total setup of a 500 gallons also any advice for me because i have a problem with my phosphate and nitrate thanks
shah
1100 gallons, the monster skimmer below is 18" diameter and 60" tall. I had nitrate of 75-100 and phosphate of .2-.3 until I started vigorous water changes and running GFO to combat these. I also added macro algae to my refugium and my denitrator finally kicked in Point being, the skimmer I have amazes most people as they haven't seen one this big in our area, but it doesn't remove significant amounts of nitrate/phosphate.
Best thing is to have plenty of live rock for denitrification, large refugia with macro algae is helpful, limit fish load and feeding is probably the best suggestion based on experience.
I have my 150 up for 2 years now. I am breaking it down this month and giving it to my son, as I am selling my current house and building my new one (with a fish room behind my office for my in wall build)
Start vacuuming your substrate. This will probably help nitrate and phosphate problems fastest. Get a good clean-up crew, one that will go under the substrate surface. Stop overfeeding.
