Looking for some Apex help

I posted on the FMAS Facebook page and I would like to try here also. I'm looking for some help isolating an apex display problem.

I bought a used system a few weeks ago with a known issue with the display. When you fire it up after a minute or so there's a click in the eb8 and the display goes very bright and washed out. Flickers in intensity. You can read it, but only from a steep angle, not straight on. Adjusting intensity and contrast does not fix it. All functions seem normal and the classic dashboard as well as Fusion works fine.

After a few emails, Neptune Support opened a ticket requesting me to send the display and base unit. They replaced some ic's in the base unit, did nothing to the display, charged me $70, and sent it back.

I plugged it up and still had the same problem. Emailing, they started asking me the same questions again and I referred them to the first few entries in the ticket as I really didn't have anything new to add.

I decided to try something. I plugged a 12v adapter into the base unit. The display did not change. I then unplugged the eb8 from the base unit and the display was now normal and stable. I plugged the eb8 back into the base unit and the display went washed out again. All the outlets in the eb8 are set to OFF. I also tried a different USB cable from the EB8 to the base unit.

Their latest response to me after telling them this was that I need to send in the display again. I think the display is fine and either the EB8 or the base unit is faulty, and I would like to verify that by trying another EB8, or trying my display on a working system before sending anything into Neptune again.

I'm looking for someone in the south Florida area who has an apex and would be willing to let me bring my system over to try another EB8. If you know of anyone or a lfs who would be willing to help, please let me know.

Regards
Michael

Michael- I offering, as I did on FB. You can test in my system. Im in west Pembroke Pines.

Thanks. I think I've found the problem. There's 17.6 volts on the Aquabus ports of the eb8 - not 12 volts. Neptune says I need to send it in.

For educational reason for the rest of us:

How did you measure that and where?

I cut a spare USB cable and verified with Neptune support that the pinouts used on the Aquabus are the same as the USB standard, though the voltage is 12vdc and not the USB standard 5vdc.

I measured the red and black wires with the cable plugged in to the eb8 and no load. Neptune has since indicated that 17.6 vdc is not exceptional with no load, but requested I send in the eb8 and display, which I did.

Michael
