I recently became aware of a situation in which an owner of a clam was dismayed to find that their recent purchase was being consumed by blue legged hermit crabs. according to the limited information i have, the clam was in this person's tank for three days before they found the crabs eating away.

in your experience, would a healthy clam be susceptible to a blue legged hermit crab attack? is this a common thing or does it make more sense that the clam died and the crab(s) were simply cleaning up the dead tissue?

I would be willing to bet that the clam was already on it's way out. I've kept clams and blue legs for many, many years and not experienced anything like that.
