I recently became aware of a situation in which an owner of a clam was dismayed to find that their recent purchase was being consumed by blue legged hermit crabs. according to the limited information i have, the clam was in this person's tank for three days before they found the crabs eating away.

in your experience, would a healthy clam be susceptible to a blue legged hermit crab attack? is this a common thing or does it make more sense that the clam died and the crab(s) were simply cleaning up the dead tissue?

I would be willing to bet that the clam was already on it's way out. I've kept clams and blue legs for many,many years and not experienced anything like that.

my bluelegs walk right over the clam as it closes up... i'd bet the clam was already dead/dying.

no problem here, never seen a blue leg near my clam.

Same here. I have had 2 Croceas for years with blue legs,Scarlets,red legs....no problems.

Yes, the clam was going. Clean up crew just did its job.
