Looking for something yellow

I am debating between a Yellow Tang or a Butterfly of some sort. I am leaning towards a Butterfly because they have more going on than just being plain yellow but I am unsure of their hardiness.

I was looking at the Latticed Butterfly, Racoon Butterfly, Blackback Butterfly or something along those lines.

I have a 20 gallon long that I plan to do QT in and would like to have whatever I end up getting to eat flake and pellet as a staple. Can you get a Butterfly or Yellow Tang to even eat that?

I will eventually put whatever I get into my 75 with my Occ Clown pair and Bangaii Cardinal pair. Down the road I may get a Coral Beauty Angel or something else like it that has blue on it.

Anyway, anyone had any experience with any of those listed or similar?

Thanks

if this is for a reef, the best choice is the one you dont have there; a yellow canary wrasse, Halichorus crysurus i believe. I wouldnt trust butterflys with corals and i personally find yellow tangs boring. the wrasse has nice markings on the face, will help control pests, and is active. Another good option is a midas blenny

I agree. I feel like the YT is boring and I plan on putting a yellow canary wrasse in my tank for a touch of yellow.

No need to worry about coral he says his tank is FOWLR. Your choice of raccoon is good and you may also want to look at Augriga and maybe the Falcula.

I have not even considered the Blennies or Wrasse. The Midas Blenny looks neat but it looks like it hides a lot. The Wrasse is a possibility although I think I am still leaning more towards the Tang or Butterfly.

Would a Latticed, Racoon, or Auriga Butterfly be as hardy as a Yellow Tang?

It is a FOWLR by the way. I may someday add a RBTA Anemone.

What about a bicolor angel to get the blue and yellow in one package? As far as other decent sized yellow fish, I also like the lemonpeel angel, but then you might not be able to get the coral beauty; and I think there is a yellow foxface that doesn't get too big for your tank?

I thought about the Bicolor Angel also but I have read on here that they don't have a very good track record.

The Foxface/Rabbitfish don't interest me, I don't know why.

I've always had great luck with bicolor angels in my experience with them over the years and with multiple specimens. Just make sure they are eating before bringing them home and prophylactically treat for flukes with prazi in the quarantine.

My YT eats flake, pellet, krill, mysis, and anything else I put in the tank. It's an eating machine.

Since it's a FOWLR, and 75g, I'd definitely go with a butterfly instead of a yellow tang. Many of the hardier butterflies, like the ones you listed will often eventually eat pellets.

Okay I have heard one for the Yellow Tang being "an eating Machine", so that's one for the Tang camp.

Has anyone ever actually kept a Butterfly.

Thanks for the link. It looks like the Racoon, Auriga, Black Backed or Latticed would be good choices although it says the Latticed and Auriga might eat Anemones. Anyone know anything about that?

I think I like either the Latticed or Racoon out of those four.

I definitely agree with both aspects of Peter's opinion.

I personally like and have kept Auriga and Raccoon. The red sea raccoon is my favorite. (also good with aiptasia removal)
