No I do not have a nem. I said in one of the posts above that it might be a possibility somewhere down the road. That is why I asked if butterflies would bother them.

I am trying to plan long term for my tank and want to know all of my options before I paint myself into a corner.

I think at this point I am at a crossroads between a Yellow Tang and later an Anemone or a Racoon Butterfly and no Anemone. I do like the Copperband also, but read that they are touchy.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I remember when I first started my 90g tank eons ago, I made it a FOWLR, but after awhile, I wanted to add corals. I knew that I couldn't afford a second tank nor did I want to have a second tank. Anyway, I am just saying that you may want to change from a FOWLR to a Reef tank later on and may want to keep your options open if you can.

I will probably go the Tang/Anemone route. They aren't too hard to find, relatively hardy and seem to be reef safe, even though I don't really see myself getting much more than an Anemone.

I first had this tank set up as a reef (birdsnest and a few soft corals) when I set it up some time ago. I had VHO lighting at the time. I had thought about maybe getting a few corals whenever LED prices start coming down (a couple years probably) but I prefer things that move, like fish.

Oh man, Paul, that CBB looks like hell

Yes he does, that is an old picture of my last copperband. I got him cheap because I knew he had internal problems and he did not live very long. That picture was the first day I got him. You can see the bruise on his side and he came in like that. When he died I autopsied him and he had internal bleeding from an injury. Copperbands are very prone to that and I have seen it many times. I think it is one reason they are so delicate at first.
This one replaced him a few months ago and hopefully will live forever.

You know I have avoided getting a yellow tang for many years just because they seem to be that typical fish everyone has to have as a noobie, and some can be ticky w/ other tangs.
I found a really small one not long ago, and I have to say that splash of yellow against my other fish colors is pretty cool and so far a model citizen.
I think the midas blenny would be my next choice.
I'm a nem guy, always will be, so that lessens the possibility of having BF's, though there are so many out there that are pretty.

Tangs can be fairly aggressive toward other tankmates so I would avoid them. Be careful when you talk about tangs around here though. The tang police may scream at you if you add one to a tank under a million gallons or report you to PETA. All semi-joking aside I would go with:
copperbanded butterfly
longnose butterfly
raccoon butterfly but only 1 since they can be aggressive toward each other.
bicolor angel
prawn goby
canary blenny
lemonpeel angel
midas blenny
purplestripe dottyback
anthias
various boxfish/cowfish
yellowheaded jawfish (if you have substrate)
etc. there is lots to choose from :)

I love a Copperband but I would rather have a nem (RBTA) for my clowns and a yellow fish that won't destroy it so I will probably not go the Butterfly route.

I thought about a Lemonpeel Angel also but then I would not be able to get a Coral Beauty.

I think I will most likely get the Tang to go with my Clowns and Cardinals and then later get a Coral beauty and a nem. That will probably be about the end of it.

Well I ended up ordering a "small" Yellow Tang, some snails and a Skunk Cleaner Shrimp from Liveaquaria. I've never ordered a fish online before.

I am impressed all around. The fact that I can get a fish to my door in less than 24 hours is neat. It's like Christmas when you get the box and open it.

The tang is about 2" long and appears to be flawless, not even a torn fin. It is a bit thin but I am working on that. Within a few hours of going into my barebottom 20 long QT it was eating NLS Pellets, Formula One Flake and frozen Mysis. About the only thing it doesn't seem real interested in is the dried seaweed.

He's been in there about 48 hours now and I am treating him with Prazipro. I'll give that a few more days and then start a round of Cupramine for a few weeks.

On top of that it looks like my Bangaii Cardinals are getting reading to lay some eggs again. The female was shimmying up against the male today.

I know a Yellow Tang is kind of a "been there done that" fish, and i am sure I would have liked it if I got something else, but I am pretty happy with it. I have never had one surprisingly, and If I knew how to post pictures I would.

I have always liked YTs and will probably always have at least one. I have 3 in my tank right now and I wish I had a few more. I guess I'll never be in the "better than a YT crowd". If you like it... thats good enough.

For what it's worth, I have had a Midas Blenny for about 4 months. It is by far one of the boldest and most personable fish I have ever had. Definitly on my short list of best fish ever. Mine is big too, in comparison to the ones I usually see for sale. He is every bit of 5 inches. Looks like a muppet.
