Im looking to buy a skimmer and found a few articles about tunze skimmers.

Some good and some bad.. like everything else in the world..

Can anyone here sell me on tunze skimmers?

i have a 125g LPS,Softie tank. (60"x18"X26")
55gal sump (49"x15"x15")

Im looking for the best skimmer for the $$. as money seems harder to come by for this hobby lol..

So any Tunze reps out there want to try set the hooks? :D

stocking is going to be medium heavy..

I was looking at the 9015-9020 but unsure if its overkill..

Thanks!

Mark

A 9010 would do the job just fine. Not a big 9015 fan, the 9020 is really impressive though. The main advantages are the low power consumption, small size and quiet operation.

I'd vote for the 9020. I have one on my system (150G display and 50G sump/fuge) and it does a fantastic job. Plus, with the foam extraction units you don't have to empty the collection cup every day!

:D

i purchased the 9010 today..

these things are pretty flimsy. top bracket were collection cup sits pops off by itself.. i can't get any foam to even reach the cup....

i've been working on it for 4 hours now..

my bad... i didn't need to use 2 of the suction cups which lead to a slight twist. which made the top pop off..

and the foam is almost in cup as i type, so yes a few days to build up skimate..

sorry for the quick judgement. i was having a hard time lol..

i apologize Tunze..

well after 24hours of operation i still don't have and air bubbles getting to skimmer cup.. i see the air bubbles from above but it only in the neck right below skimmer cup. i do have some residue on upper neck in cup. so foam must have reached up there..

do i need to use the sliding doors? or leave everything wide open. and also my water lvl is just under the water mark on the skimmer.

its on a 55gal sump not attached to anything.. and the sump has all my livestock and corals in it. while i redo my main display.

i also have a Coralife superskimmer on the sump.. would that be delaying the break in cycle?

any help would be great.

well i turned off the other skimmer and this morning the tunze has tons of foam.

i wonder if it just timing or if the coralife was out skimming the tunze..

It could be a combination of both, in general using two skimmers that are not identical does not yield very good results, the Tunze will need a few more days to really break in.

over night i left both skimmers on..

and the tunze overpowered the CSS.

heres day 3 of break-in

Is the foam extraction unit really $90+ ?

That is the one thing I'm hesitant about with the 9010 and 9020... Collection cup is so small that it will need to be emptied too often. RIght now, I have a drain fitted to my remora, and I only need to change once a week MAX (cap fitted to a 2L bottle).

The 9020 includes foam extractors. The cup on the 9010 holds 700ml and stops skimming when full, on my 120 I need to clean it and empty it once a week, it usually has about 500ml in a week.

The cup is a thin extrusion that may break if drilled, the cup stops the skimming when full so it won't overflow.
