Hi does anyone know how I can contact Larry Sommers. He used to be a member here and went to the all ohio frag swap a year ago and I have some questions about mac computers for him. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Rod

Rod,
I don't know Larry, but I do know about mac computers. Is there something I could help you with? Let me know, Andy

Hi Andy, I want to buy a new mac. I want to do alot of dvd movie making from both digital and analog devices. I just started to investigate them and I did not know if I should go with the minimac or the Imac. I have a 8 month old 21" flat monitor and 2 western external drives all of which says it will be compatible with the mac. I am tired of the unreliability of the pc and the constant lock ups while trying to make movies with adobe premiere. You can reply directly to my email rjn@jmzcomputer.com since this is not reef related. Thanks, Rod

issues that I found with pc video editing

Hello,

don't know diddly about mac's except the diehards say they are almost kill proof. Never used one.

But as far as pc's loaded with windblows; automated backups with mirror drive(s) setup if you do anything with your pc that you will freak about if you lose it in the middle of things.

And as far as a adobe premiere and avid and pinnacle, if you are trying to video edit on less than 2 to 4 gigs of system ram you are wasting your time.

Also if your pc based system uses any of the 200mh or less than system bus speeds...even with 2 to 4 gigs of ram you are wasting your time unless it's a stripped machine used only for photo and video editing only. And Intel chipsets specifically the software that makes the chipset work seem to not have as much mysterious "automated" lockup syndrome as the Via and other lower chipsets.
Well, unless tapestries of obcenities and self induced hair pulling derived from data loss during edits and burning is your thing.

Just some tidbits about video editing on pc's that I have noted.

I guess if I bought a mac, how would I be able to tinker with regedit and other such jollies? Besides, life is such a crapshoot, why shouldn't our computer usage be any different.

:D
