Looking to Replace Substrate, suggestions needed

I'm looking for something course enough to vacuum efficiently and stay in place under pretty strong flow but be fine enough for burying wrasses.

I have 2-3 inches of Tropic Eden Miniflakes right now. I don't get sand storms but my two Vortechs do move it quite a bit and I have to push it back to the front of the tank to fill bare glass spots routinely. Also, the lower flow spots have been developing cyano, a problem that I think could be rectified with more flow and some routine sand vacuuming to clean out the detritus. Unfortunately, I tried doing this for the first time the other day and I was sucking up more sand than cyano or detritus. It almost appeared as if the cyano was actually heavier in the water than the miniflakes.

I've got a whole build thread in my club forum if your interested...

why not try the heavier grade of the tropic eden substrate I think its the "select". I use the aragonite and I love it it will get pushed around in some heavier flow areas but nothing major. I find it to be the best substrate, there was no cloudiness when I first put it in the tank. And it holds up well when I do do a sand cleaning.

I am using the Reeflakes from Tropic Eden, they are bigger than the miniflakes. I have to be honest, I have never vacuumed it though, but going with the Reeflakes did significantly cut down on sand storms caused by the flow from my Tunze.

I've ordered the Tropic Eden Grand Select. We'll give it a shot.
