Lookout's new adventure

Not going to be a sump, already have one of them. It is going to be laying down, so 60'' wide 33'' front to back, and 16'' high!

I'm thing a prop/frag tank?!!:bounce3::bounce3:

Great build. Just read through the whole thing last night! I love the idea of having zoas wrapping along the glass on your tiles. maybe you could toss some rics in there as well. Can't wait to watch this all come together and grow. Make sure to keep us up to date with pictures!

Thank you, the webcam is going to be up all the time. I actually have it taking a picture every hour also so I can make a time elapsed video in the future. I hope the zoa's will work on the tile, there is a good amount of flow and may not work as planned.

Yes it is a prop/frag tank, also is going to be a refug. ( maybe, may have to add another tank :) )

Side is on, trying to decide on how I want to do this. One idea, split the tank down the center (long ways) one end of the divider cut lower, on the other end, drill a hole in the divider and put a moded maxjet. This will circulate the water around the divider. One side of the divider ( the back) could be the refug. Since it is 16’’ deep, I will also put a deep sand bed in it. Can anyone recommend where I should get the sand. Since it is not the display sand, I really don’t care what it looks like, May also throw some mangroves in there.
The other option is just leave it all open… Ideas?

If you are indifferent about herringbone or square, I would go with square so that it appeals to more people if you ever have to sell the house.
Where is the frag/fuge going to be located? It looked like you were out of room in the laundry area. I like the idea of a mangrove forest. I can never keep chaeto alive, so I stopped running a refugium.

Ok so this is not reef related, but I need some opinions. I am going to tile the house, probably not this year but sooner than later. I know what tile I want. I have already tiled one of my rooms. I just need opinions on normal or herringbone. I wish I had a bigger audience on my thread, would like more opinions. I was going to do the bedrooms herringbone and the main area normal. After I did the bedroom I sort of wish I did the bedrooms normal and the main area normal"¦ Opinions please!
All herringbone, all normal ( accept the one room I already did), all bedrooms herringbone and main area normal??

You know I just took a picture of that tile in Lowes and posted on my facebook with the comment:

"Sort of like this, wonder what it'd look like grouted"

Herringbone in the bedrooms normal in the main area would be what I would do.

Most people who see the tile think it is wood, before they walk on it. I love the tile. It was easy to work with. I used a lighter grout which i believe made it look more like real wood. I am leaning to doing the bedrooms har. and the common area (living room/dinning/entryway/kitchen) normal. Let me know if you want to see more pictures.

So I found a place that sells "250 sand" , from what I read..."250 sand is produced at the same mines that provide washed shell and beach compatible sand. It is a mixture of shell and sand of eight graded sizes." going to go try the vinigar test this weekend.
Anyone know anything about 250 sand... When I search it.. I get everything but 250 sand... 250g tank 250# of sand... blah.

So.. what do you think.. I am sure some people will laugh, I did when building it!

The top slats are not screwed down yet. And yes a peice of plywood and foam are going on top..

Now I can do laundry and check on my frags! Maybe I will like doing laundry now!

I love it. I assume the laundry cabinet is going away. Great use of limited space. Just make sure that you are able to move laundry machine in and out without disturbing the tank and you are golden.

Thanks, I thought it was a good place for a tank :). Yes I can pull the washer and dryer out with no problems. I have to move my control panel over some so the power input wires dont hit the frag tank. I have to take it anyway to paint that wall. All around the frag tank has been painted so now I just need to rout the tank and put the bulkheads in. Then lift it up on the stand.

Very very clever.

very cool. Will the vibration from the washine machine give you some sort of wave effect in the frag tank?

I did not get the frag tank in today, Got home and my garage door broke, so I had to fix that. Got the plywood for under the tank, Sanded and textured the wall next to the tank. I don’t think I am going to divide the frag tank with acrylic. I think I am going to make a wall of rock down the center. And use egg crate on the back section to hole the algae back there, and use the front for frags. I have about 100+ pounds of rock left from my old tank in 2 35 gallon brute’s. I am a little afraid to put the rock on the sand as it may be a place for stuff to pile up.
I get my first group of zoa's tomorrow. Excited! Here is what I am getting, Should be a good start to covering the tile.
