Thanks DNA, the dome is glass. There is alge growing on it right now due to the cycle. I am away right but will clean it when I get home
 
So back from vacation, Put the skimmer in the sump and the water level is too High. It is 10.5’’. The skimmer is a reef Octopus super sro 3000INT so 8’’ is magic number. So I am going to have to cut down the one piece of acrylic. Bad planning on my part but not too bad of a fix. I am going to drain the sump to do it so I need to get containers for the water. Still have not finished the lights, I hope to get them completed this week, if I don’t run out of wire.

On a side not, when I was at SeaWorld (I have been there many of times) I found something I have never seen before.

It was hidden behind a roller coaster. It was actually a beautiful reef. Huge corals and nice selection of fish…very well done. They also had a cave you could walk into that had about 30 stingrays that swam over top of you (acrylic celling). The sting ray tank also had a deeper area that had about 500+ fish that where all schooling, I did not know what kind of fish they were but it was very cool to see.
 
Skimmer is in and running, Had to lower the water level a lot. Skimmer is already pulling out stuff. Hope it helps with the hair alge. need to order some carbon.

Any reason to not just make a stand for the skimmer vs lowering the level in the sump?

I knew someone would ask this. Not enough room to raise the skimmer I have about 1 inch on top to remove the cup (Only need about 1/4 an inch). So I had to lower the water level which is fine.
 
All of the lights are now hooked up. Have one fan that is getting no power and one light. Working on fixing that now, I think I will have to buy some sunglasses for the fish! I am still deciding if I should put the optics on. Hair algae is still an issue but the skimmer is pulling all sorts of stuff out even though I am hardly feeding. I guess i should have soaked the rock and tile beforehand. Going to order some carbon and some po4 remover. Since I don't have a refugium up yet it would probably be good to run for a little bit.

I was at the lfs and they had a mantis, I was about to run how and setup one of my bio cubes for him but once I got home decided I should spend my time on this tank.
Will post some pictures in a bit.
 
There are a lot of wires.. But think of this.. There are 14 wires going to each pendent. Each pendent needs 58 little ends crimped on the wires (end that is on the pendent, 2 ends on the wire that goes from the pendent to the control box, the connection on the control box). And there are 5 pendants. Equals 260 little ends, it was a PITA :headwallblue:, but now it is easy to disconnect or move pendants around.

WOW, ya lot of wires. Can you post some info or a link to the connectors you used. I'm looking for a solution to disconnect the wiring harness from the fixture. Do you need a special tool to put the wires in the connectors? Thanks Rick

They are Molex 2x7 connectors. They are the same that are used on a computer power supply to plug into you main board. I used a small pair of wire cutter's to push the tabs over and then used a pair of pliers to crimp them tight. They do have a tool you can buy to do it or you can solder them. Solder is probably the best way.

Lookout, thanks for the link. I bought a couple. I had been looking for 16 pin fora while now to repair a Ice Cap ballast that shorted at the connector. This is the exact same conn. What do you mean "guy selling with metal wire pieces"? I like your web cam!---Rick

"Metal wire pieces" is the technical term.. :) That link i sent you is just the plastic pice you need the ends for the wires that fit into it. Here is a link to some. I can not find the person that I got mine from.. There are male and female molex connectors, and there are male and female contacts.
