Lookout's new adventure

Tank is in.
I am going to have to move the control panel over, But if I move it over I will not fit between it and the wall. Trying to fiture out what to do.

Ok, I normally just browse as you can tell from my low post count but I actually had to sign in to tell you this. I appreciate what your doing. Most larger tanks are just a matter of how much money the owner has to spend, not a matter of dedication as you are putting into this. I like how you are doing everything diy and putting alot of effort. Everything is looking awesome, props to you man, keep up the good work.

Thank you, It sort of amazed me. Even though I have DIYed everything it still is expensive. I could not imagine how much it would have cost if I would have paid someone else to do it all. To me, doing all or as much as I can myself is 90% of the fun. Again thank you, glad you are along for the ride!

Yeah thats what I'm saying, your actually doing it lol I mean of course it cost money. Its an expensive hobby no matter how you go about it but its not like you went out and bought 10 radions, bought a custom sump and this and that. And I love the fuge over the washer and dryer. Awesome!

Well thank you, Wait until you see how I am going to do the top of the tank! :)I have never seen anyone do it like I plan to.

So I went on lunch and checked out the 250 sand. It is a mix of sand and cc. I tested it and it fizzled in viniger. So I bought about 1000 pounds. I am going to sift out the bigger pieces and use just the finder sand part of it. cost.. $20 and some of my time. A lot better then $400+

Glad to have you following Steve!
I got about 75 pounds of sand separated from the cc. 2.5 hours of work. Now I that I have a system down I should be able to move a little faster. My back definitely does not like it. I am getting about 50% cc and 50% sand, so I am getting a good amount. I rinsed the sand until the water ran clean. Need to rinse it in rodi then I can put it in the tank.
Till tomorrow!

Awesome build, just read every page and could not be more impressed, awesome combination of DIY and large tank (my two favorite threads!)

But anyway, I just had a quick question, what are those blue pcb's with the blue modules in the picture above (with all the colorful wires going into them)?

Thank you again for your time in posting this on the forum...

Thank you Timmy!
They are relay boards. They allow me to turn off and on power to each driver. Also allows me to control outlets, like skimmer, pumps, ect.

Lookout, I am setting up a small nuvo 30g with stand and all my wires, jbj ato, mp10 controller, ballast, and power strip are just laying all over on the top shelf. I see two post above that you actually made a panel and used different electrical parts to be able to control each circuit. Could you spare a few and explain to me how I would be able to do this and what exactly I would need. Thanks in advance.

Sorry have been a little busy. I spent over 4 hours sifting sand and only got 3/4 of the sand needed. So I have another night of sifting. I drilled the holes for the drain. Probably should have drilled them a little lower but they will work. Need to make the over flow box( should not be hard) and plumb it. Here are some pictures.

The way I am doing it is with an arduino ( 3 actuly) and relay boards. As for the leds, I build my own board to convert 5v pwm to 10v pwm. I am writing all the custom code for mine.

Today I finished shifting the sand. I have about 6'' (not underwater yet so not sure how much it will compact). From what I read this is a good depth for a deep sand bed. This leaves me plenty of room for frag racks and a refugium. My plan is to build the overflow next and plumb the tank. I am then going to fill it with saltwater but not hook it up to my main tank yet. I have an extra skimmer and some power heads. I am going to run the skimmer and power heads in the tank to make sure I cleaned the sand good enough also will run carbon and some gho. I am a little worried about the sand still having something on it. After the tank has been running for a bit I will put something in it to make sure everything is good. Then I will open the plumbing up a LITTLE to let the 2 tanks mix slowly. Once all that is done I will add the rock and lights to the tank. I think I am going to either move or rebuild the control cabinet. It is too big for that space. I am not sure what I am going to do yet.
Here are some un-edited bad videos, the lcd on my camera broke and can't really see what I am recording. Also you will see me tripping over my messy house right now. The one video, my cat found the goby in the tank and is chasing it around the bar. Feel free to ask questions.

Hope these videos work.
