Losing DI beads...is this common?

On my RODI unit, the DI beads that you can see through the clear plastic housing are not tightly packed like they used to be. I've run about 300gal of water through it, total. I don't recall how the ends are sealed to keep the beads from flowing out.

I've noticed my flow rate in the system has gone up, indicating the water is not forced properly and slowly through the system.

Thoughts?

In the mean time I'll email the RODI company's tech support.

Mine has done something similar. I found that with the flow through the horizontal DI canisters, the resin settles toward the bottom. I have not actually "lost" any of the resin. Also, after finally getting a TDS meter yesterday, I have verified that the TDS is still coming out 0 ppm.

Are you using a TDS meter? If not, I strongly recommend getting one. It is the only way to verify that your RO/DI unit is actually doing its job. It will also help with determining when it is time to replace the filters.

Okay, I'll get a TDS meter, thanks for the advice.

The resin is half light green, half dark blue/black. It looks like it has separated into 2.

Okay, I'll get some new resin. Tech support wrote back saying the resin beads shrink making a void in the filter. I'm gonna pack more in nice and tight. Thanks for the advice.
