I had them about two months or so they realy grew were about inch and a half across. Noticed the smaller one missing as usuall no remains. Then I don't see the other one 25 gal so not much area to realy stay hidden. Funny in this hobby something seems like it's doing well than it's gone . Would the 0.25 amonia I had do them in ?

2nd that. Don't count them out just yet. Try looking for them after lights out with a flashlight.

I've found that when they've died in my tank. The corpse has been readily available. If you don't see a corpse, it's likely they're still in there somewhere. Look for signs of scraping and picking on your rocks. That means they're still goin at it.

I bet they are still alive.
I just did a massive cleaning job on my tank and I found my emerald I though was long gone for over 3 months.

I bet if you tore down the rocks and such you would find them alive and kicking.

I have to agree, I very rarely see my emerald or my peppermint shrimp in the large tank, but every once in a while I get a glimpse of them just in passing for whatever random reason.

Me and my wife have not seen ours for months in our 125, thought he had died. Our son has seen him twice in the last few weeks and said he has grown. He tried to get a pic to show us but he was not quick enough.

Just want to add that my emerald since he is hiding is no longer green. He is skin color. So I guess this is normal and they are able to change colors like that?

sometimes they are preparing for a molt

they go into deep hiding for a while when they molt, mine does at least, I won't see him for quite a while but will find the empty shell eventually and he'll reappear.
