Lost my Coral Beauty

Guess it happens, but I lost a Coral Beauty. Not sure why, as 30 minutes prior I had just checked my water quality and everything was right on the money.

I come back down stairs with my daughter to say goodnoght to grandpa, and laying under the anemone, with a starfish tentacle wrapped around him/her was my coral beauty.

All the other fish look good, and the beauty was eating great. She was a pig in fact. The only thing I can figure is at times she was a bit of a daredevil and would swim around and under where the anemone is and I figure her luck ran out.

She was swimming fine, great in fact, and then funeral time.

Any ideas? Or just bad luck?

Not a green serpent, no Greg. But to tell the truth, I can't remember! I got them from Chad way back when... two of them...

Maybe I should be feeding them more meat!!!

Hey Howard...sorry to hear about your Coral Beauty...I have no idea what happened:(

How do the other fish look? I would keep an eye on them for signs of illness...have you added any new fish lately that could have brought a disease with them?

THe other fish look good. 30 minutes to an hour before the "incident" the coral beauty looked good as well! She was eating like a pig, great color, swimming well. The other fish show no signs of illness, but I will keep an eye on them.

Nothing new lately, just a goby I got from GWA a couple 2 or 3 weeks ago, but they have all been fine.

I have a brittle star that has taken down a cherub angel and a purple firefish. Mine is getting large, about 6-8" and I do see him suspended from the top of a cave, presumably waiting for dinner. I make sure and drop an extra silverside near him when I feed the anemone's.

Brittle stars are "technically" not reef safe. If you want a star you should stick with the serpent stars.

what about the possibility it was hit by a mantis

Dude,

If I have one I have never, but never seen him. And all else is well...
