J/K about the alge scraping..
I'm depresed though as they have not paid me in two months because they are broke and now they laid me off and said when they get the funds they will pay me for the last two months, but my credit cards are maxed in hopes they would pay up..

So now I have no buffer, and need to find a job ASAP. Is your work hiring??
:)

Life goes on..
Atleast for now I will have more time to stare at my tank.
:)

what do you do? i have a friend who has his own auto shop, he's usually looking for mechanics. and another friend needs people to tutor autistic kids. easy job, you go to the family's home and do the tutoring. i think they pay 10-12 an hour

if you can use either of those, pm me and i'll give you the numbers and call them ahead for ya

Steve,

Sorry to hear about your job loss. It really sucks that they haven't been paying you for two months. I thought the law required that if they fire or lay you off, they are suppose to give you a severance pay within a certain period of time. It's not your problem that they are broke - they should pay you.

The University isn't the best paying job out there, but they do have great benefits and once you past the 6 months probation, you pretty much have job security. If you have any questions about a job posted in the tech field at UCD, just give me a holler and I can see if I can put you in touch with the right person.

On a positive note - the tech field is getting hotter. I know this because the applicant pool for tech position on campus is getting worst. This always happen when the market is hiring.

Steve-

File a complaint with the Dept. of Labor. What they were/are doing is illegal and you should file a complaint so there is a formal record that you are due the missing pay.

Also, depending upon how they were organized you could look into suing for the missing pay.

Good luck.

Employee pay (along with gov't taxes) is the number one responsibility for a strapped company: before rent, before vendors, before anything else.

If you demand that they pay you before you file a complaint, they'll very likely pay you. This will save you the time, trouble and effort of getting the gubment involved.

Sorry to hear.

Our employers HR rep told me that each time someone is laid-off or resigns, the employer MUST give them their final paycheck within 24 hours of their last day at work.

They can get into a lot of trouble if they don't.

Karl,

You are correct. I have had situation where we terminated an employee without notice, and we had to give them their paycheck immediately. The only exception is if the employee quits, then the company has 72 hours to issue a final paycheck.

And don't forget - they are required by law to pay for any unused vacation as well.

Thanks for all your words of encouragement..
I'm actually not trying to screw the company (yet)
They have not paid rent in two months either, we have calls from vendors daily. So I'm not the only one who wasn't paid..

They said when a contract comes in and they have some cash I'm first on the list, to get some.

They tried to get a loan to pay me as well but the paperwork was just taking too long.

It's a very tiny company, you guys may even remember those little TV's at gas stations here in Sac, that played news 10 on them?
Well News 10 was supposed to sell the advertising on them for us so we could make money, but they never did and for 2 years we ran news 10 stuff for free.
so then my company got mad and had us move all the systems down to the bay area, where they are now. And ABC 7 is supposed to be selling the adds for us. Well they are taking their sweet time doing it so the company is very cash strapped.

So I'm not really bitter towards them yet, I run a small business in the evenings with just me and my wife, and that makes a few extra $1,000 per year (nothing to live off though). So I can understand yet at the same time I have bills to pay..

Thanks for all the suggestions, I will be on the hunt...
My family owns an Commercial Electrician shop that I used to work for 5 years ago, I may go work with them temporally to get some cash.

TAB PM me with more about what you do..
I can send you my Resume.

Thanks again all..
I think on the bright side, I'm sure I'll be able to make it to the meeting on Friday!!!

I got laid off from a great, well paying job, but as you said live goes on. So I retrained myself as a real estate agent and got my license. It's a lot harder than everyone thinks. I struggled along for a year before throwing in the towel. I went back to school and at the city college and retrained in water treatment. Now I work for the City of San Luis Obispo as a water treatment operator. Once again I have a great job with good pay and benifits and good growth potential. The hardest thing was getting my foot in the door, but once your in, your in! Now I have recruiters contacting me all the time. There seems to be a shortage of operators nation wide. The coolest thing is the job is like an extension of the hobby as far as water quality goes. Anyhow if you are interested drop me a pm and I'll tell you more about how to get started. (It took me a long time to figure that one out).
Best of luck to you in what ever decide to do.
