Ok, seems to me there is just a lot of tiny little particles in the water of the main tank. they are not microbubbles....I have tried a few things...even pantyhose on the end of my drains.....not really helping...
I am not sure how to use the activated carbon either or the sock bags....could you let me know what you think I should do? First time with a sump. I even tried to put one of those blue and white pads between 2 baffles but it kept creeping out. I just want to get the water looking more clear.....help!!

Carbon is best run through a reactor, but if you haven't got one of those, put some in a mesh bag and throw it in a high flow area (maybe underneath of the drain pipe coming from the tank). Filter socks just need to go on the end of the drain so that all of the water going into the sump has to go through the sock. Usually sumps are designed to hold a filter sock in some way. I don't know what you're setup is like, but you'll need to have a way to keep the sock in place over the end of your drain.

I have tried the pantyhose on the drain and it seemed like it just made the bubbles worse to the point they just would not go away.

If they are truly not MBs then get a bag of filter floss. Stuff a ziplock bag of it , cut holes on the bottom tips of the bag then attach it to the drain and run it for a day and repeat. It should contain most of the junk enough without making more micro bubbles.

Have you added a sifting Goby ? When I did i could not get my water to really clear up for a good 2 weeks as he was going nuts on the sandbed.

I get bags of poly fill from Jo anns for 2.00 & use that. Its the stuff u use to stuff pillows with.
