Is that a waste collector line coming out of the side of the cup? Or some sort of clever waty to shut the skimmer off by routing the venturi intake up there? Hard to tell.

That is likely plumbed to the grey tube going up which is the air intake.

I asked that question on my XP3000 - CoralVue said (1) they use the cup moisture to help keep the venturi clean and (2) it will pull in gunk to reduce chances of overflowing if the cup is full.
