Okay I just bought real reef fully cured live rock off divers den and it was shipped with wet news paper over it will it be okay to put directly into the dip lay it was overnighted here in Alabama

No, it is absolutely not OK to put directly in the tank. That rock must be re-cured before it can be put in the tank.

I was under the impression that the Divers Den rock was shipped fully submerged. What a waste of money!!

That's what I thought how long does it have to cure

A couple weeks at least. You will need to give it a few weeks for all the die off to be processed.

I hope the fish you ordered along with this rock (what fish?) were not relying on this rock to act as their biofilter.

No all I ordered was 2 o clownfish and 3 catfish and a had dons carpet anemone I ave a can aster filter full of bio balls and a mother with a mechanical and chemical

Why would anyone think live rock would ship fully submerged? That would cost a literal fortune in shipping charges.

If the rock is over-nighted you should be fine, I've done it with no cycle at all. But there's no way to know for sure what kind of die off you experienced without putting the rock into salt water. Toss the rock in some salt water with a heater and airstone. Test for ammonia after 24-48 hours. If you get ANY reading whatsoever it needs to cycle through completely prior to adding it to a tank with existing livestock.

It would be very expensive to ship that way.

If you do priority shipping there should be very little die off. I had some corals, feather dusters and the like reappear within days when I ordered mine.

It is what I would expect for the $200 they are charging for 25lbs of rock from Divers Den. I would never expect the regular live aquaria live rock to be submerged. I guess some people out there are willing to pay $8/lb for live rock, but this stuff was just dry rock that has been sitting in their aquaculture system.

P.S. Todd, I was surprised you didn't say anything about the carpet he ordered :)

I missed that part about the "carpet"

Given what I have been reading, I don't see it being alive longer then a week.

Also, if you just ordered 2 clowns why are you asking about more clowns in a different thread??

I like it because it pest free and 95% cover in coraline

You know most of that coraline is FAKE right? That whole box of rocks has never been in the ocean. It's dyed cement and epoxied coraline. All they did was take that "Real Reef" fake purple rock and stick it in their aquaculture system for a while. Then they jack up the price $6 a pound and sell it to you.

Dragon - The rock is cured in our facility for about a month. We ship it with wet paper towels to keep it moist during delivery. Your rock is from the Diver's Den section, so can be rinsed and placed directly in your aquarium. Please feel free to call customer service for additional help - 800-334-3699 :-)

I love Divers Den/Live Aquaria, but dry rock cured for one month and sold at $8 a pound is crazy.

Ted -- unless you have actual facts to back up your claims.....

Like I said, I love Live Aquaria/Divers Den, in fact all but one of my fish are from Divers Den, just my own opinion about the rock.

Nowhere in that link, that I could see, did it mention "fake coralline" it being "epoxied coralline" and lastly "fake purple rock".

Sorry, didn't realize the video didn't post:

  • Dye mentioned - 0:49
  • "It looks like real coralline algae" - 1:07
  • "It really is a great live rock substitute" - 1:23
  • "So this is totally man made, 100% man made rock" - 2:01
  • "While it is mostly a dye that is put in there as far as the coloration" - 2:14

Now you have seen it. :hmm4:

where does this associate DD/LA? and live rock is considered live from the bacteria inside, not if its been in the ocean or not.
