Love these fish

Wanted to mention how highly I regard my Yellow Wrasse (Halichoeres chrysus). Really for someone in the early stages of a mixed tank they couldn't do better. I have found them active, colourful (if you like yellow), eat anything, reef safe, peaceful, cheap and very entertaining, and most of all apparently bulletproof. A recent disaster involving a number of fish succumbing to Brooklynella (or possible other similar parasite) left them completely untouched...of course they may have still been carriers.
They may not be sufficiently exotic for top level experienced reefers but for relative newbies like me they are absolute winners....cool little fish. They are regarded as jumpers but I did not have an escape attempt in over a year in a frameless Cade with no edges to discourage jumping... every Blenny I bought carpet surfed until I finally fitted a glass lid (and stopped buying Blennies)..so while I dont doubt the advice that they are jumpers mine never have.

I am amazed at how individual fish are and how their behaviour is specific to your tank as well. You read the descriptions on seller's websites and then get an example who doesn't jump when they have the rep. ...or doesnt fight..whatever..'

after spending two solid months in hiding, my yellow wrasse is out all the time now. love how colorful and active he is. thinking about adding a second one as my last fish purchase.

i have feather dusters and no problems. don't have any shrimp because i have hawkfish so i don't know if that would be a problem. i know when i throw some ghost shrimp in for my hawks, all of my wrasses (including the coris) go after them with a vengeance!

The point I was trying to make is that the fish will probably jump. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but someday, it will probably jump. If you don't want to lose it, I would suggest you take precautions. Mine was several years old when it jumped, and I had no previous indications that it would jump. Sad to lose such a cool fish due to jumping.

As King Ken said, you never know when (or even why) a fish will jump.
I even lost a Mandarin to jumping.

I'm a big fan of my yellow wrasse too. I love the vibrant yellow he brings, he is always out (during the day) swimming around and gets along great with my other fish.

Also a fan of the Yellow Wrasse. They seem so curious about things, they investigate every nook and cranny looking for snacks. They are fun to watch. Particularly like watching them wake up and go to sleep.

Got it Ken, thanks. I haver a glass lid on my 100g now on the assumption that someday someone will decide to jump again. I dont doubt your caution at all.

Very wise. I'm on my second yellow wrasse. I was changing the bulbs out in the tank a few months ago, and I Turned my back on an open lid for literally 10 seconds to reach over and grab a new bulb. That was all it took. I still haven't found the body, but the smell ain't exactly potpourri.
Glad you got a lid. Keep your yellow cutie safe. Never turn your back on an open lid.

i just put the gyre pump in my tank today. my yellow wrasse has been playing in the flow. for a fish, he's just full of personality!
