Low Nutrient Sump Design

I'm closing down my system to redesign everything except the display tank and start over.

I'm struggling to find info on sump design for low nutrient systems. I'm going to be running vodka & prodibio system.

I'm looking for links to some decent reading and if possible pics of your guys low nutrient sumps.

Please let me know if you need more info.

Thanks

Is that sump for a bacteria driven system cause to my knowledge the chaeto dies off in a low nutrient system?

that's why i have waterflow under the cheato removing all the detritus build up. the cheato is blocked by the egg crate divider. In the skimmer section, i'll have a small pump to drive the detritus up and out.

Just dont have a fuge in it. While I was dosing vodka MB7 my chaeto died off and CCA took over so I took it out, added a power head to keep poop from settling and was done with it. Have high flow through the sump.

I do not run a ULNS, but I do run high flow through one of my sumps and I run Maxi Jets in the other to prevent any detritus from settling. Works well considering my last tank had an inch of detrius in the sump... :headwalls:

Place a pump in your sump to keep everything suspended and place a hang on the back reactor filled with filter floss to filter the deitrus works great.

Not to hijack but, I've often pondered building a detritus settling chamber of sorts before my sump. With good flow in the sump, and even more in the display tank, it seems this would make a good place to allow it to settle that is easier to remove or siphon it out, before it gets in the sump. This would have to be maintained every week or two to avoid the whole nutrient sink problem. But seems in theory that it would be much easier to remove detritus from here (basically an empty tank or sump chamber) than the sump itself- due to equipment, and easier than the DT - due to all those pesky rocks and critters.

I believe that this is essentially what i have done. At first, i pondered having LR in the tank drain section, but after seeign how well detritus builds up in the first section, i think i may leave it wide open so that i can easily shop vac it out. I despise using filter socks. It seems like a much better option for my liking. You can see my first section in this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31eYbqC6v_A&feature=player_profilepage

My other option is to do a frag section. Im going to see how it goes after i start populating the tank with my other tanks rock and LS.
