low ph and sps

rogergolf66

im an addict lol
Ok I lost a colony last week. the ph got a bit low but not awful. this week I notice a couple others don't look as good. for the past 4-6 months are has been great the ph has been up because the windows have been open.

by the was all other parameters a stable where I want them.

my question is has anyone ever heard of sps struggling cause of Low ph? im talking under 7.80 yes ph probes are calibrated and yes it is cause the house is closed up. yes I have a co2 scrubber already on the tank and the skimmer line is outside the house.

I started dosing kalk at nights about 2 months ago cause I knew I was going to be closing up the house soon. I am thinking about turning the calcium reactor down a little bit and doubling the kalk dose at night.

well any thoughts on low ph killing SPS

Roger

what calcium reactor are you running.
what ph is the effluent of the reactor (what is your probe set to in the reactor)
do you run a 2nd chamber?

I am running the Geo 8x18 reactor ph is set to 6.75-6.95

I am not running a 2nd chamber. I know this can raise the ph before it gets to the tank. I have had this problem with out running a reactor. the problem is the high so2 levels in the house from everything being closed up running the AC and the people living in it breathing :)

the effluent should be between 6.75-6.95

Im really wanting to know at this point is what happens to sps that is in a low ph situation under 7.8?

I have added kalk to a night time pump running on the apex but I had to double the amout it is adding during the night to keep the ph above 7.8

so anybody know what sps do at low ph? I believe this is my issue but if it is not I need to keep searching to find the problem. if this is the main problem then I need to keep working on a solution.

thx for any info you can give me

Roger

Interested in this too. Following along. My pH goes as low as 7.7 and on good days, when nobody is home or of windows are pie all day, can go up to 8.1. I am getting slow growth but not any recession

there is another thread on about this topic somewhere here.. the guy was loosing sps, lps and clams were good, but couldnt keep any sps. they would just rtn a few weeks later. he has his pH 7.7 as well..

Before I moved into my current house I had low PH problems, Usually between 7.7 and 8 and my tank had slow growth and stn issues. Where I live now my Ph is between 8.3 and 8.5 and my tank is absolutely thriving.
