Low ph in your tank

rogergolf66

im an addict lol
Ok first off when the house is closed off I always have problems with ph. I have solved the issue by dripping Kalk when the tank lights r off.

Last night I hosted the reef club meeting great having everyone. I just wanted to point out how much people breathing can affect your tanks. We had maybe 20-30 people here for about 3 hours . Here is a screen shot of what my ph did overnight. The red is my normal Kalk drip to keep ph up in safe range. It wasn't enough with all the extra breathing.

I'm sure the tank will be fine for 1 day just wanted to point out how sensitive r tanks r to things we don't even think would effect them. By the way we r talking about 250 gal of water. So not a small system. To be effected this much in such a short time.

Very good thread roger especially with our summers the doors and windows are closed up tight all the time .

Makes me wonder what a system that pumps oxygen into the casinos would cost to add to a room in the house for the tank:)

I thought about that while I was there. I meant to tell you to put a fan in a window or something but it slipped my mind. Any ill affects so far?

Non yet. I think it will be fine. Was only a few hours. I turned on Kalk when I saw it

Clear saturated kalk in 35 gal container. Apex runs a 50ml. Per minute dosing pump for 8 min every hour when the lights r off in the tank. I do this in the summer to help keep the ph up. Winter it's not needed for me when I open the house up

I dose same amount of alk every day this way it is consistent. Calcium reactor r 2 part can be used also if needed but u will be surprised how much kalk can handle demand more then u think. I am not using it to maintain ph but to just keep it in a safe range so it dosnt get below 7.8 I don't need it to be 8.2 or anything. As long as I am between 7.8-8.4 then ph is in safe range

Very interesting Roger. I never even thought about that. I definitely will be watching my ph in the future when I have a lot of house guests. Good thread!

I been using a CO2 scrubber for years.

You find, its not really how big is your tank, its the size of your skimmer pump (air scfm).

Have you ever tried turning on the exhaust fan over the stove?

I build new homes and its actually a new code that the range vent or hood I believe its 400 cfm and greater is required to have a clean air damper installed .the air conditioning contractor is required to install a fresh air intake with a damper to open when the range hood is turned on they feel with how sealed the newer homes are with better windows / doors/ insulation ect....that you would then lower the oxygen from the house
