forgot to plug in heater after water change went down from 78 to 70 . plugged in back up now but finger coral kinda closed . everything else seems ok will it return to normal been a day now at 78 degrees.

Hard to see it going from 78 to 70 just from a water change.
Was this your firat change and do you know your water readings?

that's a pretty big change quickly so it is hard to tell--just have to wait and see
some of your smaill inverts might have been affected more by the sudden change

if the change had been over 24 hrs or longer it probably would have been alright.

the poster is probably not heating the water prior to use

Ronny-----I prepare my salt water in a 20 gal plastic garbage can
I mix the salt up the night before to about .022 salinity then run a power head and a heater in the pail overnight.
The next day I measure the salinity again and bring it up to .026 and make sure the water is the same temp as the tank.

I had this happen as well. Went from a 79 degree tank to 70.3 over the period of a night. (forgot to have the heater turned on and it got really cold overnight) It took about a week to get the finger leathers back to normal.

Things should be ok. I've received shipped coralsand even fish with temps in the low 60s and high 50s. Just raise it up slowly.

Leather ok today was I lucky or what ? Good thing i came home tuesday and found it tank room in cellar is about 64 in winter Going to put little heater to get it up to 70 ish for a little protection if power goes off ect.

if the power goes off then the heat will go down in the room also

better to buy a battery backup and hook a power head and the heater to it as a safety measure.
